Doug Baldwin indicated in a long series of posts on Twitter that he is retiring from the NFL.
The wide receiver hoped to continue playing, but a series of offseason surgeries and the termination of his contract by the Seattle Seahawks after a failed physical prevented that.
Baldwin had surgery on his groin and shoulder this offseason.
Last season he had injuries to both knees, an elbow, a shoulder, a hip and his groin.
The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to sign defensive tackle Al Woods.
The move came just a few hours after Seattle's signing of Ziggy Ansah became official.
Woods, 32, was among several defensive tackles who visited the Seahawks.
The Seattle Seahawks have released Doug Baldwin and Kam Chancellor after they failed their physical examinations.
Baldwin had surgery in the offseason to repair shoulder and groin injuries and he also had a knee procedure. Baldwin is widely expected to retire. Baldwin had remained silent on his future in recent weeks.
Chancellor did not play last season due to a neck injury suffered in November 2017. Chancellor remained on Seattle’s roster last season for salary purposes and was on the physically unable to perform list but was not expected to play again following the injury.
The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to sign Ziggy Ansah to a one-year deal.
Ansah's deal is expected to include $5.5 million in guaranteed money with incentives that could elevate the deal another $8 million.
The Seahawks' acquisition of Ansah will help offset the loss of DE Frank Clark, who was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Seattle won't lose a 2020 compensatory pick by waiting until Thursday to sign Ansah.
The Seahawks brought in Ansah for a visit in late April.
Ansah has 48 sacks in 80 career games since the Lions drafted him fifth overall in 2013.
Bobby Wagner would like to retire as a member of the Seattle Seahawks, but he's a realist.
The linebacker is entering the final year of his contract, but he's not ready to stop playing football.
"I want to retire a Seahawk, but I understand it's a business," Wagner told NFL Network. "I'm preparing like this is my last year as a Seahawk. If it is, I want to make sure I go out with a bang and make sure I give the city something to remember."
Wagner said he's yet to begin contract talks on a new deal, negotiations he intends on representing himself in.
