GM: Seahawks Weren't Hiding Richard Sherman's Knee Injury

Jan 27, 2017 8:34 AM

John Schneider says the Seattle Seahawks weren't acting maliciously when they failed to list Richard Sherman's knee injury on the injury report during the second half of the season.

"Pete [Carroll], it was in a press conference at the end of the season, and quite frankly, was sticking up for the different bumps and bruises and issues that Richard had," Schneider said. "I think that's why they've gone ahead with this. But we feel like we didn't do anything that was malicious at all."

During an appearance on 710 ESPN Seattle after the season, Carroll said that Sherman was dealing with a "significant" knee injury.

The NFL is considering docking the Seahawks a second-round pick as a result of not disclosing the injury, according to a report by ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Sherman was listed on the injury report in 11 of the final 12 weeks of the season (including playoffs). In 10 of those instances, he missed practice, but the report described the reason as "non-injury related."

Richard Sherman: Seahawks Losing A Pick Would Be 'Harsh'

Jan 25, 2017 4:19 PM

Richard Sherman doesn't believe the Seattle Seahawks should lose a second-round pick for failing to disclose a knee injury during the season.

"I don't know if that should be the retribution," Sherman said. "I don't know what the course should be. But I think that's a bit harsh."

Pete Carroll first revealed an MCL injury for Sherman last week during a radio interview.

"I heard some foolishness like that," Sherman said of Seattle forfeiting a high draft pick. "That's just unfortunate. I think they kind of are a little too hard on our team for no reason. I think if there's other teams that kind of just got docked for the same thing, so it's going to be curious how they treat the other teams."

Seahawks Concerned About C.J. Prosise's Durability

Jan 19, 2017 7:02 AM

The Seattle Seahawks are concerned about C.J. Prosise after he suffered four significant injuries after he was drafted in May.

Prosise was sidelined by a hip flexor during OTAs and hamstring strain during training camp.

He then broke a bone in his wrist in Seattle's season opener which caused him to miss four weeks and suffered a fractured scapula in mid-November.

"I can't tell you that I'm not concerned about C.J," Pete Carroll said. "He had trouble through the offseason, was unavailable to us throughout, and there was a groin and a hammy and a wrist and then the scapula thing he had. He has to show it."

Richard Sherman Played Season With MCL Injury

Jan 17, 2017 6:08 PM

Pete Carroll revealed on Monday that Richard Sherman played through much of the season with a painful MCL injury.

Carroll added that the cornerback won't require surgery in the offseason.

Sherman was never listed on Seattle's injury report with the ailment.

"Honestly, I didn't even know we didn't report," Carroll said. "I'm feeling like I screwed that up."

Julio Jones Will Alert Officials If Seahawks Hold

Jan 12, 2017 7:57 AM

Julio Jones has no plans to "cry" for penalties but won't hesitate to alert officials to foul play in Saturday's divisional playoff rematch between the Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks.

Jones appeared to be held by Richard Sherman on a controversial late no-call back in Week 6. Had a flag been thrown, the Falcons would have sustained the drive for an opportunity at a game-winning field goal in an eventual 26-24 loss.

After the game, Jones insisted Sherman pulled his right side, while Sherman maintained his innocence and said, "I mean, I thought there was interference on offense on a few plays, and they didn't get it. So it was just one of those games. They let us play."

Jones said he would have no problem throwing up his hands and hunching his shoulders if such an incident happens again this time.

"When we're in a game, I'll go look at them like that and say, 'You didn't see it?' if they didn't see it," Jones said. "I'm not going to sit up there and cry about anything. It is what it is. But you've got to alert them. Some refs just let you play, too. It's like, 'All right, you're going to let us play? Then we're going to go out here and play. If you're going to call it, call it. Just let me know how you're going to officiate this game.'"

Michael Bennett: NFL Doesn't Want Us To Be Individuals

Jan 6, 2017 10:23 AM

Michael Bennett spoke critically on the way NFL players are treated by the league in which it is about the logo on the helmets and not the people wearing them.

"The NFL doesn't want us to be individuals," Bennett told B/R. "Look at the NBA; they are allowed to market themselves and think about their life after basketball. The NFL is all about the shield, the shield, the shield. I could go on all day about the hypocrisy of that."

Bennett signed a three-year, $31.5 million contract extension with the Seattle Seahawks at the end of 2016.

"I wasn't drafted," Bennett said. "I was seen as this guy who wasn't good enough to be on an NFL roster. Now I play with this great group of guys. It's been a blessing. I know how fortunate I am."

Seahawks Sign Devin Hester To Return Kicks

Jan 4, 2017 8:40 AM

The Seattle Seahawks have signed Devin Hester to play on special teams in the wake of an injury to Tyler Lockett.

He averaged 7.2 yards per punt return on the season (17th in the NFL) and 24.5 yards per kickoff return before he was waived by the Baltimore Ravens in December.

Hester, 34, holds the NFL record with 20 return touchdowns: a record 14 on punts, five on kickoffs and one return of a missed field goal.

Pete Carroll: Contract Offer To Golden Tate Wasn't Communicated Well

Jan 4, 2017 11:32 AM

Pete Carroll believes the Seattle Seahawks' offer in free agency to Golden Tate during the 2014 offseason wasn't communicated correctly.

Tate signed with the Detroit Lions on a five-year, $31 million deal.

"We did try to bring him back," Carroll said in a conference call with Detroit reporters. "We made an offer that didn't get communicated really well at the time, and I think he's a terrific player. I loved him on our team, but you can't keep everybody, and so during the process of the negotiations, he went elsewhere.

"But our players and our coaches, we think the world of him, and he's fun to watch. We watch him every week, and we'll have a good time competing against him."

Asked to expand on his comments, Carroll referred questions to Tate's agent, Todd France. An email from ESPN to France seeking comment was not immediately returned.

Later Tuesday, Carroll clarified that he thought the breakdown of communication came from the Seahawks and not France.

"I was disappointed that we didn't communicate with Golden really clearly our end of it. So now it becomes a negotiation where I didn't feel like he had all the information he needed. And we needed to do a better job of that," Carroll said.

On Tuesday, Tate said he thought the Seahawks wanted him to return.

"I thought they wanted me back. I thought I did everything I could to help them win a Super Bowl, was in the community, was a good guy," he said. "But you know, it worked out. I'm happy where I am and excited about the future of this organization and hopefully I'm here for a long, long time."

No Teams Finish 2016 In Top-10 In Both Offensive, Defensive DVOA

Jan 3, 2017 2:01 PM

The NFL has very few teams this season that excel in all facets of the game. Further evidence of this issue shows itself in the fact that there is only one team ranking in the top-10 in both Football Outsiders' Offensive and Defensive DVOA.

Last season, the Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs ranked in the top-10 on both sides of the ball.

The Chiefs were the closest team to finish in the top-10 in both Offensive and Defensive DVOA at 13th and 14th.

The New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys finished the season ranked first and second in both Total DVOA and Weighted DVOA.
