49ers Confirm They Were Unwilling To Trade No. 2 For Odell Beckham

Mar 25, 2019 9:06 AM

Jed York confirmed the San Francisco 49ers pursued a trade for Odell Beckham Jr. with the New York Giants.

“We were definitely in it,” York said. “We were aggressive. But I think (the Giants) wanted different things than we had to offer. I think it would have been very hard for us to just give up a first-round pick and not get a ton in return, other than just the player, knowing that the second pick in the draft is a very, very valuable pick.”

The 49ers, however, did not pursue a trade for Antonio Brown.

Colin Kaepernick, Eric Reid Received Less Than $10M Combined

Mar 21, 2019 4:42 PM

Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid settled their collusion lawsuit with the NFL for less than $10 million combined.

Kaepernick filed a grievance in October 2017 under the collective bargaining agreement, alleging collusion against signing him to an NFL contract. It's not clear how the money will be split.

To put Kaepernick's split of the $10 million in perspective, his base salary in 2016 alone was nearly $12 million.

Kaepernick has not been with an NFL team since severing his contract with the 49ers in March 2017.

To prove collusion, according to the CBA, Kaepernick and Reid would have had to show that a "club, its employees or agents" had "entered into an agreement" to restrict or limit whether to offer them a contract.

49ers Could Have 'Feeding Frenzy' If Kyler Murray Falls To No. 2

Mar 22, 2019 9:35 AM

The Arizona Cardinals are strongly considering selecting Kyler Murray with the No. 1 overall pick. If the Cardinals decide not to select him, there are expected to be a number of teams interested in trading up to the San Francisco 49ers' slot at No. 2.

"Now, if they don’t do it, and he’s still there at No. 2, I see an absolute feeding frenzy from teams looking to trade all the way up for Murray," wrote Jay Glazer. "I just don’t see him dropping past that. But man, if the Cards don’t take him, that No. 2 slot that the 49ers own would probably be the most sought-after slot in a long time."

John Lynch Says 49ers Will Draft Best Player Available

Mar 21, 2019 8:25 AM

The San Francisco 49ers have the second overall pick in next month's NFL Draft.

John Lynch says the team isn't targeting a specific position and that he'll look for the best talent available.

"In terms of what we did, it gave us flexibility," Lynch said. "We had some ideas of areas where we had to get better. And what we did gave us flexibility to just focus on going out and getting the best player available, particularly with that top spot, regardless of the position."

49ers Were Unwilling To Trade No. 2 Overall Pick For Odell Beckham Jr.

Mar 16, 2019 6:35 PM

The San Francisco 49ers had interest in trading for Odell Beckham Jr. both during the 2018 season and again in the offseason.

The 49ers' best trade asset for the Giants was the No. 2 overall pick.

"Someone with the Giants told me they were asking for the second pick of the draft from the 49ers, which the 49ers weren’t willing to do," wrote Jay Glazer.

49ers Sign Tevin Coleman To Two-Year, $10M Deal

Mar 13, 2019 6:41 PM

The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to sign Tevin Coleman to a two-year, $10 million deal. Coleman was a third round pick by the Atlanta Falcons in 2015. Coleman had 167 carries for 800 yards last season and also was widely featured as a receiver out of the backfield.

The 49ers also signed Jerick McKinnon at running back last offseason.

Le'Veon Bell was also a target for the 49ers.

Le'Veon Bell Agrees To Four-Year, $52.5M Deal With Jets

Mar 14, 2019 8:19 AM

Le'Veon Bell has agreed to sign a four-year, $52.5 million contract with the New York Jets.

The deal contains $35 million in guaranteed money for Bell. The maximum value could hit $61 million with incentives.

Bell sat out the entire 2018 season after he was unable to agree upon a long-term contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Bell became a free agent when the Steelers elected not to use a franchise or transition tag on him.

The San Francisco 49ers also made a strong offer for Bell. The Baltimore Ravens, meanwhile, never made an offer.

Bell's average salary per year with the Jets, $13.25 million, would rank him second among running backs in the NFL, behind Todd Gurley's $14.37 million average.

The Steelers offered Bell $70 million last offseason but contained only $17 million in guarantees. Todd Gurley and David Johnson received between $31 million and $45 million in guarantees. Bell called the Steelers' $70 million "Monopoly money." Bell's contract with the Jets doubles his guaranteed money even if it doesn't make up the $14.5 million in lost 2018 money.
