Seahawks Unlikely To Sign Colin Kaepernick

May 31, 2017 9:07 AM

The Seattle Seahawks are unlikely to sign Colin Kaepernick.

The Seahawks have been the only team to express interest in Kaepernick this offseason.

Despite starting last season for the San Francisco 49ers, Kaepernick has received little to no interest in free agency.

Kaepernick kneeled during the national anthem throughout the 2016 season, but he's said he won't do so again in 2017.

Jed York Wants To 'Sit Down' With Jim Harbaugh

May 4, 2017 7:56 AM

Jed York is thrilled with new coach-general manager duo Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch, but may sit down for dinner with Jim Harbaugh in the near future.

"I'd love to sit down with Jim," York told Peter King. "Not in front of cameras, not in front of anybody else but just share an evening with him and truly say thank you and wish him the best of luck. Not obviously when he plays Notre Dame, but for the rest of the season, wish him the best of luck."

The San Francisco 49ers and Harbaugh parted ways after the 2014 season amid rumors that Harbaugh was involved in a power struggle with Trent Baalke.

"I don't know if 'regret' is the right word," York said. "(Jim and I) had a lot of success together. We tried several times to get an extension done with Jim and, for whatever reason, those didn't culminate. And, ultimately, as successful as he was here, I think Jim is very happy. He's doing an unbelievable job at Michigan."

A shoulder condition that worried teams and could jeopardize his rookie season led Reuben Foster to slip to No. 31 on draft night, according to league sources.

Foster had surgery on his right shoulder.

"The surgery didn't take," said one source.

The San Francisco 49ers were happy to be able to select the former Alabama linebacker at the back end of the first round.

John Lynch, Solomon Thomas Were Classmates At Stanford

May 2, 2017 3:32 PM

The first time John Lynch and Solomon Thomas met, they were classmates at Stanford.

Lynch hadn't finished his degree when he left for the NFL in 1993 and decided to go back in 2014 when Thomas was a freshman. The pair were in the same Management Science and Engineering course and actually worked together on a project.

Three years later, Lynch drafted Thomas was the third overall pick as the general manager of the San Francisco 49ers.

"He was on top of all the stuff, coming back as an older person, compared to us young people," Thomas said of Lynch. "He was on top of discipline, very studious and diligent."

49ers Thought Bears Were Targeting Solomon Thomas

May 1, 2017 10:48 AM

The Chicago Bears refused to tell the San Francisco 49ers who they were targeting at No. 2. The Bears, however, weren't the only team to call the 49ers with serious interest in moving up.

The 49ers had Myles Garrett first on their board, followed by Solomon Thomas and Reuben Foster. The 49ers assumed it was Thomas.

“We got some good action on the pick,” said Paraag Marathe.

When Garrett went to the Browns at No. 1, John Lynch asked Marathe to call the Bears to get a little bit more.

Marathe called the Bears. “To try to solidify this now,” Marathe said to Pace, “we’re gonna need a little bit more to finish. It wouldn’t have to be much. Like, your four. So let’s say your third, 67 overall, this year, your three next year, and your four this year, 111 overall … I’m not gonna string you along … No … I will do it quickly. Let me get with John and Kyle (Shanahan) and I’ll call you right back.”

The Bears agreed to give up two third round picks and a fourth rounder to move up just one spot.

“Man, who do they want?” Lynch said. “Gotta be Solomon, right?”

“Call me crazy,” Marathe said. “But I think it’s (Mitchell) Trubisky.”

“Then why’d they go get [free-agent quarterback Mike] Glennon?” Lynch said.

49ers Were Prepared To Draft Reuben Foster At No. 3

May 2, 2017 8:16 AM

The San Francisco 49ers were prepared to draft Reuben Foster third overall, but were able to take him with the No. 31 pick.

San Francisco didn't know who the Chicago Bears planned to take when they moved up from No. 3 to No. 2. If the Bears had taken Solomon Thomas second overall and the 49ers couldn't trade down, they likely would have pulled the trigger on Foster with the third pick.

The 49ers tracked Foster's stock and tried multiple times to trade up and take him. With the New Orleans Saints prepared to take him 32nd, the 49ers traded with the Seattle Seahawks for the 31st pick.
