Bears May Have Been Competing Against Themselves Trading Up

Apr 28, 2017 3:03 PM

The Chicago Bears may have been competing against themselves in trading up from No. 3 to No. 2 with the San Francisco 49ers to select Mitchell Trubisky.

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, John Fox even was unaware of the Bears' plans to draft Trubisky until a few hours before the draft.

The Bears paid $1.56 on the dollar to trade up with the 49ers.

John Lynch did say publicly, however, that they 49ers had Trubisky as their top-graded quarterback.

Week 13 Win Over 49ers Cost Bears Three Draft Picks

Apr 28, 2017 8:22 AM

The Chicago Bears beat the San Francisco 49ers in a meaningless Week 13 game last season that ended up costing them three draft picks.

The Bears entered the game 2-9, while the 49ers were 1-10.

San Francisco went on to finish the season 2-14 and landed the second pick in the draft. Chicago finished 3-13 and received the No. 3 selection.

On Thursday night, the Bears traded up to the second pick to take Mitchell Trubisky. They sent a 2017 third-rounder, 2017 fourth-rounder and a 2018 third-rounder to the 49ers. If Chicago had lost to San Francisco in Week 13, they wouldn't have had to part with those picks to get Trubisky.

49ers Considering A Quarterback With No. 2 Pick

Apr 24, 2017 8:31 AM

The San Francisco 49ers are strongly considering a quarterback with the second overall pick this week, according to several sources.

The 49ers signed Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley this offseason and they've already been linked to Kirk Cousins in free agency next spring.

San Francisco has done a lot of work on each of the top passers in the draft and the belief is that Mitchell Trubisky would fit best in Kyle Shanahan's offense.

There have also been reports that the 49ers could trade the No. 2 selection.

The New York Jets, who have the No. 6 pick, may also be seriously interested in moving down.

49ers Receiving Calls About No. 2 Pick, Are 'Open For Business'

Apr 13, 2017 7:38 PM

John Lynch says the San Francisco 49ers are "open for business" on a possible trade involving the second overall pick in the NFL Draft.

"There's the traditional trade chart. We've got one of our own. We know how we value that. As I've said, we're open for business. We'll listen to anything," Lynch told KNBR-AM. "But I've always said you don't like being a 2-14 team, but you like having the second pick. Because I think it puts you in the driver's seat. A lot of options at your disposal. And we'll explore every single one of them."

Carlos Hyde is the incumbent starting running back for the 49ers.
