Only Four First-Round Picks Remain Unsigned

Jun 22, 2016 1:08 PM

Only four first-round picks from last month's NFL Draft are unsigned as July inches closer.

Joey Bosa (No. 3, San Diego Chargers), Darron Lee (No. 20, New York Jets), Will Fuller (No. 21, Houston Texans) and Joshua Garrett (No. 28, San Francisco 49ers) are unsigned.

All four players are represented by CAA.

As Mike Florio points out, just a few years ago almost no first-round picks would have been signed at this point. The new labor deal, five years old, includes a clear rookie wage scale.

Joey Bosa Skipping Minicamp Over Contract Dispute

Jun 15, 2016 12:07 PM

Joey Bosa did not report to the first day of the San Diego Chargers' mandatory minicamp on Tuesday because of an apparent contract dispute.

The rookie defensive end is one of five first-round selections from this year's draft that remain unsigned. Bosa also did not attend Thursday's final day of organized team activities last week.

Bosa is the No. 3 selection overall and first nonquarterback picked in this year's draft, and the main issue appears to be offset language. Bosa's camp wants it left out of his contract, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Chargers File Over 110,000 Signatures In Support Of New Stadium

Jun 12, 2016 7:36 PM

The Committee for Sports, Entertainment and Tourism delivered 83 boxes containing 110,786 signatures to be filed with San Diego City Clerk Elizabeth Maland in support of a new stadium for the Chargers.

"On behalf of the entire San Diego Chargers organization, we want to thank every registered San Diego City voter who signed the petition," chairman Dean Spanos said in a statement. "We also want to thank representatives of organized labor -- and particularly the unions of the Building Trades Council -- for their significant help and support during this process. And we are grateful for the volunteer signature gathering work coordinated by the fan groups, including Save Our Bolts and the San Diego Stadium Coalition. The fan groups did a great job, as did the hundreds of other people who contacted us and volunteered to gather signatures.

"Most signature gathering efforts of this kind take six full months. We had just six weeks to complete our work," Spanos continued. "The fact that we were able to collect more than 110,000 signatures in that short period of time demonstrates tremendous support in our community for a new, combined stadium-convention center expansion downtown."

The club was required to get 66,447 valid signatures from registered San Diego voters to get a measure on the ballot. The registrar's office has 30 days to determine how many signatures are valid.
