Ryan Leaf Arrested On Burglary, Drug Charges
Former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf was arrested Friday in his Montana hometown of Great Falls on burglary and drug possession charges, police said.
The circumstances surrounding Leaf's arrest were not immediately clear. Great Falls Police Sgt. Dean Bennett, who confirmed Leaf's arrest, said Friday night that he had not seen a report detailing the allegations against the ex-football player.
Ricky Williams Would Unretire For Chargers
Ricky Williams has signed his NFL retirement papers, but he hasn't completely ruled out playing football again.
The running back said in a radio interview that he would consider returning to play for his hometown Chargers.
Antonio Garay Back With Chargers
The Chargers have agreed to a two-year contract with defensive lineman Antonio Garay.
The nose tackle started 28 games for San Diego the last two seasons and played in every contest. His 108 tackles, 8 sacks, 29 quarterback hits and 19 tackles for loss were by far the most among Chargers defensive linemen in 2010-11.
Garay, drafted by Cleveland in 2003, also spent several seasons with Chicago before signing with San Diego as a free agent Dec. 9, 2009.
Chargers Won't Pursue Reunion With Tomlinson
Chargers general manager A.J. Smith has shot down speculation that LaDainian Tomlinson could be pursued in free agency.
Tomlinson spent the first nine years of his career in San Diego, where he rushed for 12,490 yards and scored 153 touchdowns.
He's a free agent after two low-profile years with the Jets.
Rosario Signs With Chargers
Dante Rosario has agreed to a one-year contract with the Chargers.
Rosario has 89 career catches for 1,011 yards and five touchdowns at the tight end position in 78 games.
Panthers Sign Mike Tolbert
The Panthers have added depth to their backfield in the form of Mike Tolbert.
Tolbert could have earned about $1 million more by re-signing with the Chargers, but he was excited by Carolina's four-year offer.
"That's how bad he wanted to play there," agent Joel Turner said. "He loves the idea of playing for Ron Rivera and being on the same team with Cam Newton. He just thinks it's a great fit."
Royal Has Three-Year Deal With Chargers
Wide receiver Eddie Royal agreed to a three-year, $13.5M contract with the Chargers on Thursday, including $6M guaranteed.
"I'm just happy to be with a great organization," Royal told The Associated Press.
Le'Ron McClain To Join Chargers
Le’Ron McClain has agreed to terms on a three-year deal with the San Diego Chargers.
The back is a physical runner who has split time between running back and fullback. He rushed for 902 yards on 232 carries for Baltimore in 2008, though he spent more time as a lead blocker from 2009-11 and is expected to play fullback for the Chargers. McClain played for the Chiefs last season and averaged 18.8 catches per season over the last four years.
McClain is the fourth former Ravens player to sign with San Diego since 2011, joining Antwan Barnes, Jared Gaither and Jarret Johnson.
Robert Meachem To Join Chargers
The Chargers agreed on a four-year contract with former Saints wide receiver Robert Meachem. No other terms of the contract were announced.
Meachem was chosen by the Saints in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft and has been a key contributor to one of the most productive offenses in the NFL.
In 2011, Meachem averaged 15.5 yards on 40 receptions for 620 yards and six touchdowns. He has caught 23 touchdowns passes and averaged 16.1 yards per catch in five NFL seasons.
Tampa Bay Signs Jackson To Five-Year Deal
The Buccaneers have signed wide receiver Vincent Jackson to a five-year contract.
The deal is worth $56 million and includes $26 million in guaranteed money, according to a league source.
Jackson, 29, will make $26 million in the first two years of the contract and $36 million in the first three.
He has 272 career catches for 4,754 yards, with 37 touchdowns.
