Marty Schottenheimer, sixth on the NFL's all-time coaching victories list, is heading to the UFL to be the coach/GM of the Virginia Destroyers, the league announced Wednesday.
Schottenheimer, 67, has not coached since he was unceremoniously fired by the Chargers after a 14-2 season in 2006, primarily because of a dysfunctional relationship with GM A.J. Smith, according to an ESPN.com report.

San Diego Interested In One Of New England's Picks?
The Patriots are rumored to be interested in dealing one of their two first-round draft picks and the Chargers may be looking to acquire it.
San Diego has five picks among the first 89, second only to New England's six in the top 92.
The only solid thing to go, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune, is that a high-ranking Chargers insider confirmed the team has heard the chatter about the Patriots desire to maneuver with the 28th pick and said the idea is intriguing.
Chargers' Burnett Calls Goodell 'Blatant Liar'
Chargers linebacker Kevin Burnett delivered a verbal hit to Roger Goodell earlier this week, calling the commissioner a "blatant liar" in an interview with a San Diego radio station.
Appearing on XX Sports Radio in San Diego, Burnett ripped Goodell when asked to respond to the commissioner's e-mail to NFL season-ticket holders after the NFL Players Association filed to decertify as a union and the NFL owners locked out the players.
Cooper Believes He's Done With San Diego
Chargers linebacker Stephen Cooper believes his time with the team is coming to an end.
"I think I'm going to have an opportunity to test the market," Cooper said Saturday.
The eight-year veteran has gone from special teams standout to part-time starter for San Diego.
Cooper said he is "excited" for the opportunity once the league and NFL PLayers Association can agree on a new collective bargaining agreement.
Sanders To Sign With Chargers
The Chargers will sign safety Bob Sanders to a one-year contract, according to a league source.
Sanders, who visited with the Bills, Jaguars and Jets, was released by the Colts last month.
Chargers Letting Naanee Walk
The Chargers have declined to offer a contract to receiver Legedu Naanee.
He faces charges of public intoxication and resisting arrest after being arrested in Indianapolis last month.
Jackson: Another Year With San Diego Would Be Awesome
Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson says that another season with the team would be "awesome."
Jackson is expected to sign his franchise tender with the team, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
The tender is worth more than $10 million for 2011.
"Another year in San Diego would be awesome," Jackson told. "I'm happy to be in San Diego. I'd be happy to spend my whole career here. I'm just gonna make the best of the situation."
