Merriman Is Motivated By Internet Snub

Oct 21, 2014 4:49 PM

Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman is motivated by an Internet list that ranked him as the 12th best in the NFL at his position. "I was pissed off," Merriman commented. "I'm sitting there like, 'Hold on, there are 11 guys in the league better than me? When did this happen?' I know I didn't play for a year, but I didn't know I had that much of a drop-off." Merriman is a three-time All-Pro linebacker, but missed all of last season with injury.

Tomlinson Doesn't Feel Old At Age 30

Oct 21, 2014 4:49 PM

Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson, who turned 30 earlier this week, doesn't feel that old. "That's the one thing that I'm eager to prove, is that doesn't necessarily go for every player. Turn 30, that doesn't mean that you can't play any more," Tomlinson said Thursday. "There are some guys out there that defy the odds, and I'm eager to prove that." Tomlinson is coming off a career-low 1,110 yards rushing, though he still finished fourth in the AFC. "I can still jump pretty high, can still dunk the basketball," the running back said. "If I can't dunk anymore, it's going downhill."

Chargers Practice Running The 'Frog'

Oct 21, 2014 4:50 PM

The Chargers worked on a few exciting offensive plays this week, including variations of the Wildcat. San Diego called the plays "Frog" and "Cat," with the former a tribute to LaDainian Tomlinson's TCU Horned Frogs. "I think it's good for our defense to see," coach Norv Turner said. "They're going to face it. But if we practice it enough and get good enough at it ... We've got versatile enough guys, if we can get some plays out of it, it will be good."

Ryan Leaf Wanted By Authorities In Texas

Mar 7, 2014 2:06 PM

Ryan Leaf is wanted by the law in Texas after failing to turn himself in on drug and burglary charges. A warrant for his arrest was issued May 20. That was the day a grand jury in Randall County, Texas, issued nine indictments against him involving his use of prescription painkiller medication. ?At one point he said he was going to turn himself in. He hasn't turned himself in yet, and if he gets picked up he's going to be arrested,? Randall County prosecutor Lacy Miller said. ?If he gets picked up out of our jurisdiction, then we will extradite him or use whatever means we have to get him back. Right now he is a wanted individual.? Leaf could not be reached for comment. A message left for him at his parents' home was not returned.

Is Merriman's Future With Chargers In Doubt?

Feb 15, 2014 7:58 PM

Shawne Merriman is in the final year of his contract with Chargers. San Diego could place the franchise tag on Merriman at the end of the season, but the problem is that quarterback Philip Rivers is entering the final season of his deal as well. Another indicator that Merriman could be done with the Chargers is that they used the 16th overall pick on Larry English, who is expected to play outside linebacker.
