Chargers Sign Binn To New Four-Year Deal

Oct 21, 2014 3:21 PM

Long snapper David Binn, the Chargers? all-time leader in games played, signed a new four-year contract Monday that will keep him with the Bolts through 2011. Binn?s previous contract was due to expire after the 2008 season. ?David has been a true professional and a master of his craft for many years,? Chargers' General Manager A.J. Smith said. ?We are all pleased that he will continue on with the Chargers for years to come.? The 36-year-old Binn will enjoy his 15th NFL season this fall. Renowned for his quick and accurate snaps, Binn was selected to the AFC Pro Bowl squad after the 2007 season when he was chosen by Patriots' Head Coach Bill Belichick as the AFC?s ?need? player. The San Mateo, California native has played in 223 regular season games. He?s missed just one contest in 14 years. Binn has played in 151 consecutive regular season and postseason games dating back to 1998. In December of 2006, Binn played in his 201st game in lightning bolts to break the club record previously owned by Junior Seau and Russ Washington. In January?s Divisional Playoff win in Indianapolis, Binn also became the franchise?s all-time leader in postseason games played. He has participated in nine playoff games. This fall, Binn will tie Washington and Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Fouts for the most seasons with the Chargers (15). He signed a new five-year contract in March of 2004, the first of 31 re-signings the Chargers have made under Smith?s watch.

Turner: L.T. Won't Play In Preseason

Oct 21, 2014 3:21 PM

Norv Turner claims that top-flight running back LaDainian Tomlinson will not play in the preseason in order to keep him fresh for the team's full regular season slate, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Tomlinson floated around the idea of taking some reps behind center during the preseason a few weeks ago, but Turner has already shot down the idea. "He doesn't need to carry the ball in the preseason. He's been pretty productive doing things the way they've been done around here for a long time," Turner said.
