Chargers Sign First-Round Pick, WR Davis

Sep 21, 2014 8:17 AM

The San Diego Chargers on Monday afternoon reached a contract agreement in principle with first-round draft choice Craig Davis, ESPN.com has learned. A speedy wide receiver from LSU, Davis is expected to challenge for meaningful playing time in 2007 as part of the team's young pass-catching corps. As the 30th player selected overall this year, Davis will sign a five-year contract. Financial details of the deal were not immediately available. Davis, 21, emerged in 2006, his lone college season as a full-time starter, as a precise route-runner, a receiver who makes great adjustments, and a big-play threat in the open field. He started all 12 games and, despite the presence of lead receiver Dwayne Bowe, who was the first-round choice of the Kansas City Chiefs and the 22nd player selected, had 56 receptions for 836 yards and four touchdowns.
