Chargers offensive tackle Shane Olivea signed a new six-year deal Wednesday that will run through the 2011 season.
He was due to become a restricted free agent following this season.
Olivea has been the starting right tackle since joining the team as a seventh-round draft choice out of Ohio State in 2004. He's missed only one start, due to a sprained knee.

Chargers Waive QB A.J. Feeley
Backup A.J. Feeley was waived Monday by the San Diego Chargers, whose remaining three quarterbacks have zero NFL starts and one touchdown pass among them.
The Chargers also released two draft picks and learned they'll be without left tackle Roman Oben for the season's first six weeks. As it is, the Chargers are currently down to fourth-string left tackle Cory Lekkerkerker as they try to keep first-year starting quarterback Philip Rivers in one piece. Rivers' backups are both rookies.
Rivers Has Bruised Throwing Shoulder
Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers slightly bruised his throwing shoulder when he was sacked late in the second quarter of Saturday night's exhibition game against Seattle.
Rivers had been scheduled to play into the third quarter. But he was the last player to return to the sideline after halftime, escorted by trainer James Collins. His right shoulder was wrapped and it appeared he was holding his arm close to his side.
Rivers was sacked by Craig Terrill and fumbled the ball, which was recovered by Darryl Tapp.
Seau's 16-Year NFL Career Ends
Junior Seau is healthy and thinks he can still play. He also knew it was time to retire from a 16-year NFL career.
"It's pretty easy. When a team doesn't want you or need you, retire, buddy," the 12-time Pro Bowl linebacker said to laughter from a crowd of about 300 family, friends, players and team executives Monday at the San Diego Chargers' headquarters.
The 12-time Pro Bowl linebacker ended his career as only he could, with a news conference that was part revival meeting and part standup comedy.
Report: Seau To Announce Retirement Monday
Junior Seau, one of the best linebackers of his era, will announce his retirment on Monday at the San Diego Chargers' training facility, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
Seau, who spent most of his career with the Chargers, will end his 16-year career with 12 Pro Bowl selections and 1,585 tackles -- the most ever by a linebacker. He's widely considered a lock for enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame when he becomes eligible in 2011.
Chargers Practice Aboard USS Ronald Reagan
Here's a unique way to break up the tedium of training camp: The Chargers practiced Friday on the landing deck of the USS Ronald Reagan.
The Chargers traded hats with ship personnel, signed autographs and posed for pictures.
Pro Bowl running back LaDainian Tomlinson had trouble moving about the deck. Wherever he turned, there was another group of military fans asking for a minute of his time.
Schottenheimer Apologizes For Remark
Chargers head coach Marty Schottenheimer apologized Thursday for an unfortunate remark stating that new starting quarterback Phillip Rivers will be tested "when the bullets start flying."
Schottenheimer said his words were unfortunate while U.S. troops are in combat.
"I've often said if you stand in front of a microphone as many times as I do, you are invariably going to make a mistake and I made a mistake," he said. "But the good thing about it is I will never forget that mistake."
Jammer Signs Extension With Chargers
The San Diego Chargers continue to secure their young nucleus with long-term deals after reaching an agreement with standout cornerback Quentin Jammer on a five-year contract extension on Tuesday night.
Combined with the two seasons that Jammer had remaining on the original six-year contract he signed as a rookie in 2002, the extension means that the former first-round pick is under contract through 2012.
The extension is worth about $30 million in addition to the years remaining on his current contract and it includes bonuses totaling $13.5 million.
"Quentin is a major part of our defense," general manager A.J. Smith said in a statement released by the team. "He gets better every year. It's exciting to know he will continue to be a Charger. He's a true pro. He works year-round and has a great work ethic. He's tough and physical. He's a terrific run supporter and cover guy. The best is yet to come."
Tomlinson Returns To Chargers Practice On Saturday
LaDainian Tomlinson returned to practice Saturday, and it might be the only time in August he carries the football at Qualcomm Stadium.
Tomlinson worked a day after sitting out with a sore neck. He was hurt Thursday night when he collided with defensive end Igor Olshansky.
"Everything's good," Tomlinson said after the Chargers practiced in front of several thousand fans.
Tomlinson Misses Practice With Sore Neck
Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson missed practice Friday with a sore neck, a day after colliding with teammate Igor Olshansky.
"Luckily there is nothing serious," San Diego coach Marty Schottenheimer said.
Tomlinson, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, didn't even suit up for practice.
