Source: Bush To Turn Pro

Sep 30, 2014 12:29 PM

USC coach Pete Carroll intends to hold a seminar next week to give guidance to players thinking of going pro early, but it could be too little too late. Several sources said Friday that tailback Reggie Bush will turn pro and already is being advised by Reebok representative Mike Ornstein, who previously worked for the Raiders. Officially, Bush said he will make his decision after the season and Ornstein could not be reached for comment. But Carroll still will hold his NFL seminar Tuesday, with several underclassmen who might skip their senior seasons, including Bush, tailback LenDale White, offensive tackle Winston Justice and safety Darnell Bing. "We have a couple guys coming in to give their expertise to the team," Carroll said. "Everyone needs to be educated." Among those scheduled to speak is Carroll's close friend Pat Kirwan, who works as an NFL analyst for CBS.

Bush Takes Heisman Home To The 619

Sep 30, 2014 12:54 PM

Reggie Bush left the competition behind -- as usual. Southern California's incomparable tailback won the Heisman Trophy as college football's best player Saturday night over Texas quarterback Vince Young and USC quarterback Matt Leinart, last year's winner. Flashing uncanny acceleration and ability to change direction, Bush has conjured up memories of Gale Sayers, drawn comparisons to Marshall Faulk, Barry Sanders and Tony Dorsett, and is the favorite to be the No. 1 pick in April's NFL draft. Bush and Leinart will be the first Heisman winners to play in a college game together when USC goes for a third straight national title against Texas in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 4.

L.T. Misses Practice

May 26, 2014 6:32 PM

LaDainian Tomlinson didn't practice again on Thursday due to bruised ribs but still plans to play in San Diego's home game against Miami on Sunday. Tomlinson plans to practice on Friday, when there will be less contact. "I was able to run, but that was about it," said Tomlinson, who came out of Sunday's 34-10 win over the Oakland Raiders with the injury, but then returned. "I just don't want to take a chance and be out there and have somebody bump into me and re-aggravate it," said Tomlinson, who also didn't practice on Wednesday. "It's on its way to healing and I don't want to slow the process down at all." The Chargers (8-4) have won five straight.

Bush, Leinart And Young The Only Three Invited To Heisman Award

Oct 7, 2014 3:07 PM

The Heisman Trophy competition is a three-man race -- just as it's been all season. Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart of Southern California will be back in New York on Saturday, along with Texas quarterback Vince Young, when the Heisman Trophy is awarded to the nation's best college football player. The Downtown Athletic Club, which hands out the sport's most prestigious individual award, invited Wednesday only those three players to the presentation ceremony. Last season, five players attended the Heisman ceremony and Leinart won it. Since 1999, either four or five finalists have been invited to New York. Bush, Leinart and Young have been the front-runners since the preseason, and they've been jockeying for position all year.

Tomlinson Returns After Rib Injury

Oct 7, 2014 6:24 PM

Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson came out of Sunday's night game against Oakland with a rib injury, but returned for the start of the second half. The extent of the injury wasn't immediately known. Tomlinson jogged to the locker room, accompanied by a team doctor, with 22 seconds left before halftime. A few seconds later, his backup, Michael Turner, scored on a 2-yard run to give San Diego a 17-10 lead. Tomlinson apparently was hurt on a 3-yard run late in the second quarter. He came off the field, took off his helmet and began speaking with the team's medical staff. Tomlinson carried on San Diego's first two plays from scrimmage in the third quarter.

Carroll Upset Over Media Influencing Bush

Oct 7, 2014 3:13 PM

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Sunday Pete Carroll is privately protesting that the media is influencing Reggie Bush's decision to turn pro. Carroll is telling NFL scouts that Bush will make the move if he is assured of being the top pick in April's draft. Saturday, Bush ran for 260 yards and two touchdowns in the top-ranked Trojans' 66-19 victory over No. 11 UCLA. When asked about Bush going to the NFL, his stepfather, LaMar Griffin, told ABC after the game: "It's time to take it to the next level." The Trojans (12-0) will play for the national title against No. 2 Texas (12-0) on Jan. 4.

Kiel Could Miss Raiders Game

Oct 7, 2014 6:39 PM

The Chargers could be without starting strong safety Terrence Kiel on Sunday night when facing the visiting Oakland Raiders. Kiel has been bothered by a sprained right ankle and it caused him trouble again in Sunday's overtime win over the Washington Redskins. "I just aggravated it again," said Kiel, who didn't practice Friday. "I might play; I haven't really made a decision whether I'm going to play this game or not." Kiel is third among Chargers with 50 tackles, with a sack and a forced fumble. If he can't go, third-year pro Clinton Hart would replace him as the Chargers try to win their fifth straight overall.
