NFL Clears Patriots Of Tampering With Steelers' Headsets

Sep 12, 2015 10:18 PM

The New England Patriots have been cleared of wrongdoing in regards to the audio interference experienced by the Pittsburgh Steelers in their Week 1 game.

Spokesman Michael Signora said Friday that the league believes the problem "involved no manipulation by any individual and that the Patriots had nothing to do with it."

The statement said the problem was "entirely attributable to an electrical issue made worse by the inclement weather" and that the league "will continue to review the matter to determine if there are technical steps that can be taken to avoid similar problems from occurring in other games."

Mike Tomlin said communication problems are "always the case" when playing at New England.

But the Steelers decided not to file a formal complaint.

Steelers' Headsets Have Issues At Gillette Stadium

Sep 11, 2015 8:25 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers' coach-to-coach headsets picked up the New England Patriots' radio broadcast for most of the first of Week 1's game.

The Patriots won the game by a final score of 28-21.

Mike Tomlin expressed frustration with how headset issues have occurred repeatedly at New England.

"That's always the case. Yes. I said what I said," Tomlin said.

Blake Jones, NFL director of football operations, went down to the field to help with the headsets. The league described the reception problem as "intermittent."

When asked if he got a satisfactory resolution, Tomlin said: "Eventually.'' Tomlin is a member of the league's competition committee.

New England's coaches were not required to shut down their headsets during the repairs.

The Patriots claimed to have suffered from issues as well.
