Bill Cowher Enjoys TV Job, Doesn't Miss Coaching

Aug 28, 2015 11:28 PM

Bill Cowher has had many chances to return to coaching in the NFL, but he continues to enjoy broadcasting.

“I’ve been blessed to have had opportunities to come back pretty much every year, but I really, really love working at CBS,” Cowher told Bob Glauber of Newsday. “It starts at the top with Les Moonves and Sean McManus. I’ve been here for nine years. This is like a family. It reminds me a lot of the Pittsburgh Steelers, how that was run. I had the best job in football. I wanted to move on.”

Cowher retired from the Pittsburgh Steelers one year after winning a Super Bowl.

Cowher is still just 58 years old.

“Fifteen years, I was 49 years old, and it was time,” Cowher said. “I’m still part of the game, but I also love the freedom it gives me in the offseason, to be able to travel and do things I never did before as a head coach. I don’t have the [scouting] combine, I don’t have the draft, I don’t have OTAs, I don’t have training camp. I start up next month.

“In the meantime, I’ve been able to spend a lot of time with my children, a lot of time personally traveling and it’s a great lifestyle that I wouldn’t have if I was coaching.”

Maurkice Pouncey Likely Needs Ankle Surgery

Aug 24, 2015 12:07 AM

Maurkice Pouncey will likely need to undergo surgery on his injured left ankle.

Ha Ha Clinton-Dix rolled into Pouncey's leg on a first-quarter running play, forcing the Pro Bowl center to leave the game on a cart. He was examined on the sideline before being taken to the locker room for X-rays.

"He does bring a different vibe when he's in there," guard Ramon Foster said. "I think everybody can agree with that. But we'll see what happens."

Pouncey has been hurt in two of the past three seasons, missing 15 games with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in 2013.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Antonio Brown plan to discuss an extension.

"Holdouts never go well," Brown said at the time. "Just look at history. It always ends badly. It wouldn't be the best decision."

Brown signed a six-year, $43 million contract in 2012. Since that time, he's been one of the top wideouts in the NFL. He is scheduled to make $6 million in 2015 with $8.25 million and $8.71 million coming in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

Markus Wheaton Could Be 'Breakout Player Of Year' For Steelers

Aug 4, 2015 2:43 AM

Ben Roethlisberger believes Markus Wheaton could be the Pittsburgh Steelers' "breakout player of the year."

"I want that. I want him to have that pressure," Roethlisberger told SiriusXM NFL Radio, "because ... when we're in two-wide receivers he's our No. 2 and we're asking him to play outside. When we go three wide receivers, we ask him to move inside. So he's playing multiple positions.

"I think he's doing an amazing job of it. He's such a good kid, hard worker and he wants to be great wherever he plays."
