Ben Roethlisberger Won't Need Knee Surgery

Jan 10, 2015 12:18 AM

Ben Roethlisberger won't play in the Pro Bowl as a pracaution, but it is not related to a larger problem with his knee.

"Ben was instructed by team doctors to avoid strenuous activity due to inflammation in his knee, thus he will not play in the Pro Bowl," agent Ryan Tollner said. "His knee will not require surgery and he looks forward to an otherwise healthy offseason to improve with his teammates."

Two days after the Pittsburgh Steelers' playoff loss, Mike Tomlin said Roethlisberger might need minor surgery to clean up his knee.

With surgery not necessary, Roethlisberger will rest his knee before starting his offseason training.

Ben Roethlisberger Optimistic On Agreeing To New Deal With Steelers

Jan 6, 2015 12:49 PM

Ben Roethlisberger is confident that he will be able to agree upon a new contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Roethlisberger is going into the final year of the eight-year, $102 million deal he signed in 2008, and the Steelers hope to sign him to a contract that will allow him to finish his career with the team.

"I felt great all year [on his contract situation]," Roethlisberger said Tuesday on 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh. "Hopefully it's sooner rather than later."

The Steelers normally sign their starting quarterback to a new contract with two years left on his deal.

Roethlisberger is slated to make $11.6 million in the final year of his contract with a cap hit of $18.395 million, according to ESPN Stats & Information. The Steelers could lower the cap hit for 2015 by signing him to a new deal.

Roethlisberger, who turns 33 at the beginning of March, is coming off his best statistical season.

Tomlin Only Hates Harbaugh Professionally

Jan 3, 2015 1:42 PM

Mike Tomlin told Hines Ward of NBC’s Football Night in America that there’s no personal hatred of John Harbaugh.

“Not personally, but professionally, he wants the same things that I want,” Tomlin said regarding whether he hates Harbaugh.  “He appears to be similarly as committed to it as I am, so we’re going to have problems.  He’s a good guy, but when we step into the stadium, we’ve got business, and that business is not the same.”

Harbaugh agrees that there’s no personal animosity.

“We have a little fun together,” Harbaugh tells Bob Costas. “We go to the owners meetings and laugh a little bit, but in the end we do want the same thing. We want the AFC North championship, and congratulations to (the Steelers) since they won this year — but we want to win.”
