Markus Wheaton Ready To Have Breakout Season For Steelers

Jul 15, 2014 1:51 AM

Markus Wheaton has a clear path to become the Pittsburgh Steelers' No. 2 wide receiver this season, but he takes an unusually humble approach for a player at that position.

“There’s a lot of guys chasing that spot and hopefully I can get it first and go from there,” Wheaton said. “They’re pushing all of us to get better, and whoever wants it the most will take it, so I’m going to do what I can to get that spot.”

“I’m excited to see what he can do,” Ben Roethlisberger said. “He’s a guy that wants to prove that he can be a starter.”

Steelers To Add 3,000 Seats To Heinz Field

Sep 4, 2014 4:30 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers will add approximately 3,0000 seats to Heinz Field for the 2015 season.

The Steelers will levy a $1 surcharge on tickets starting in 2015 to help pay for the renovations, team president Art Rooney II said in a statement released by the team.

Heinz Field seats just over 65,000 people, and the Steelers have sold out every home game since 1972.

Roethlisberger Believes He Can Play 5-7 More Seasons

May 18, 2014 10:26 AM

Ben Roethlisberger is 32 and believes he can continue to play well into his late thirties.

"I feel like I'm in great shape," Roethlisberger said Tuesday on KDKA-FM, per ESPN.com's Scott Brown. "I think I can get five, six, seven more years out of this arm and these legs."

Roethlisberger has had inconsistent offensive lines in recent seasons and their no-huddle concepts last season helped him down the stretch.

"I think and I hope that we've all kind of come to the conclusion that maybe we need to do it more," Roethlisberger said. "I think we might go into (practices) using it a lot more so that it is more of a regular thing."

Steelers Rule Out Trading Up, Could Move Down In 1st Round

Jul 6, 2014 9:52 AM

The Pittsburgh Steelers are not looking to move up in the first round of the draft.

The Steelers last traded up eight years ago to select Santonio Holmes.

The Steelers have the 15th overall pick in the draft that begins Thursday night in New York, and Colbert said Monday that trading up in the first round is not an option because they traded away their third-round choice a year ago to draft safety Shamarko Thomas in the fourth round.

The Steelers, however, could trade down.

“We won’t be trading up because we can’t,” Colbert said at a pre-draft news conference with coach Mike Tomlin at the team’s South Side facility. “We can still trade down and, with the depth of the draft, that’s a real possibility. Or, at least, it’s an option that’s available to us.”
