Steelers Hopeful Zone-Blocking Scheme Kickstarts Run Game

Nov 27, 2014 3:41 AM

The Pittsburgh Steelers hope to kickstart their running game with the outside zone, one-cut blocking style.

The Denver Broncos and Houston Texans have been successful with this zone blocking scheme.

The Steelers have a big, young and agile offensive line that suits this style.

Jonathan Dwyer led the Steelers last year with 623 yards, the lowest total for their leading rusher since Merrill Hoge rushed for 810 in 1991.

Steelers Have Wide Open Competition For Return Duties

Oct 31, 2014 11:38 AM

The most wide open competition for the Pittsburgh Steelers this season is in the return game.

The Steelers have promoted Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders to the No. 1 and No. 2 wide receiver positions, meaning they will likely go with a new punt returner. The Steelers also released Chris Rainey in January.

There is a case to be made for 10 candidates on the Steelers' roster to return kicks and punts.

LaRod Stephens-Howling is considered the favorite for kickoffs, though Reggie Dunn could challenge him.

Jarvis Jones Glad To Have Fallen To Steelers Despite Loss Of Income

Oct 31, 2014 2:21 PM

Jarvis Jones was one projected as a top-10 pick, but fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers at No. 17.

Jones ran slower than expected at his pro day, contributing to his fall.

Jones will earn approximately $8 million less as the 17th overall pick than he would have had he gone fifth.

"I think this was the best choice of the whole draft, me being in Pittsburgh," Jones said. "This is what I was hoping for and wishing for. It happened and it’s just like a dream come true for me."
