Charlie Batch will start at quarterback for the Steelers.
Roethlisberger has rib and shoulder injuries.
Ben Roethlisberger says “there’s always a chance,” he could play Sunday.
Roethlisberger has not played since suffering a shoulder injury and dislocated rib on Nov. 12.
The Ravens are preparing for both Roethlisberger and Charlie Batch.
Jonathan Dwyer has been named the starting running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday against the Ravens.
Every running back fumbled for the Steelers last Sunday at Cleveland.
"He's been consistently the most productive guy," Mike Tomlin said. "I think we have a large enough body of work to be able to identify that at this point. Obviously, we've been working at less than ideal circumstances with the rotation and the shuffling of those guys due to health and lack of production. But over the course of the last several weeks, it's obvious that he is healthy and he is the most productive of the group."
Ben Roethlisberger is attempting to return from his rib and shoulder injuries in time to play the Ravens next Sunday.
The Steelers are 0-5 against the Ravens without Roethlisberger since 2005.
Roethlisberger's pain tolerance and range of motion could determine whether he plays next week.
Larry Foote was assigned to run the Pittsburgh Steelers' defense upon the release of James Farrior.
"The talk all offseason was how we were going to replace James Farrior,” Foote said. “There’s a lot of responsibility on the (right inside) linebacker with the way the defense is set up.
“In the fourth quarter, guys are counting on you, so you have to be cool under pressure. I don’t want guys worried about whether I’m going to keep the train moving.”
“It’s his huddle,” linebacker Chris Carter said of Foote. “But he doesn’t feel like he’s too good to play special teams.”
The primary element Plaxico Burress will bring to the Pittsburgh Steelers is as a red zone receiver.
Burress caught seven of his eight touchdowns from inside the 20-yard line last season.
“He brings us size. Now we’ve got to get him up to speed,” Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley said. “That’s the challenge.”
The Steelers rank 20th inside the red zone.
The Steelers brought back veteran wide receiver Plaxico Burress on Tuesday to provide depth at a position decimated by injuries.
Burress impressed head coach Mike Tomlin and GM Kevin Colbert during a brief workout early Tuesday even though he hasn't played since the end of the 2011 season as a member of the Jets.
"I'm very excited to be back in the black and gold where it all started. It's a great situation for me to be in. I just want to go in, fill my role and do well," Burress said on "NFL Live."
The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed quarterback Brian Hoyer.
The Steelers will start third-stringer Charlie Batch in Week 12 due to injuries to Ben Roethlisberger and Byron Leftwich.
Byron Leftwich broke two ribs and injured his shoulder during the Pittsburgh Steelers' 13-10 loss to the Ravens on Sunday.
An MRI test taken shortly thereafter revealed the broken ribs, according to source close to Leftwich.
Leftwich is expected to be out indefinitely.
Charlie Batch will likely start until Ben Roethlisberger returns from his injury.
Plaxico Burress will meet with the Pittsburgh Steelers and take a physical.
The Steelers need help at wide receiver and Burress played with the franchise from 2000 until 2004.
Burress played last season with the Jets.
