Steelers Rediscovering Running Attack With Jonathan Dwyer

Oct 31, 2014 6:27 AM

Jonathan Dwyer had 107 yards rushing in the Pittsburgh Steelers' 27-12 win over the Redskins.

Dwyer has produced two 100-yard performances in two starts and three in 13 NFL games.

Dwyer is averaging 6.7 yards per carry in his two starts.

Rashard Mendenhall (Achilles) and Isaac Redman (ankle) have been sidelined the past two weeks.

"He's answered the call and taken advantage of opportunity," Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. "That's what we expect from all of our young people. He did the job today, but obviously, I read his name here when I talked about the list of injuries. So, I'm not going to speak too soon on that. We'll check the totality of all of the people involved and the healthy guys get the opportunities next week."

Dwyer has an excellent combination of power and quickness.

Mendenhall Ready Mentally, Physically To Return

Sep 22, 2014 4:29 AM

Rashard Mendenhall will play in his first game since tearing his ACL on New Year's Day at Cleveland.

Mendenhall has convinced Pittsburgh Steelers' coaches that he is ready mentally and physically.

"That's just part of it," Mendenhall said about practicing. "Each day is a unique day. That was one of those days where it feels good and continues to feel good.

"For me, I've been taking steps accordingly, so I feel confident in everything I've been able to do. And the next step is getting out there, and I'm confident in that. The game will kind of tell its own tale."

Steelers To Rotate Linebackers To Avoid Tiring Out Against Vick

Oct 31, 2014 8:52 AM

The Pittsburgh Steelers will rotate outside linebackers James Harrison and LaMarr Woodley against Michael Vick and the Eagles.

The Steelers will give Woodley a break with James Worilds to avoid fatigue in the fourth quarter.

The defense blew multiple leads to the Raiders in Week 3.

"I have to come off," Harrison said. "It's no need being out there, being dog-tired, and not be able to do what's necessary to play the position. You want to stay fresh. You don't want to go out there and play every snap in the first half and come out sluggish in the third and have nothing left in the fourth."

Steelers' DeCastro Recovering From Knee Injury

Sep 24, 2014 6:26 AM

David DeCastro, the Pittsburgh Steelers' first round pick at offensive guard out of Stanford, is quickly recovering from a severe knee injury.

DeCastro tore the medial collateral ligament, dislocated his kneecap and damaged the patellar tendon when his right leg buckled under him during a preseason game Aug. 25 in Buffalo. He had surgery four days later.

“I don’t have any pain, so I’m just working hard to try to get back,” DeCastro said.

DeCastro expects to be back on the active roster this season.

“I saw him (Wednesday) on the bike, and that was encouraging,” offensive coordinator Todd Haley said. “The key thing with an injury is that you stay in the mix mentally.”
