Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger wants free-agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress to consider signing with the team. Pittsburgh drafted Burress back in 2000. "I've been talking to him," said Roethlisberger, who was a rookie during Burress' final season with the Steelers in 2004. "Plax and I have been talking for the last couple of months. I talked to him the other day and said, 'Would you be interested?' I'm excited for him to come whenever he comes here."

Sources: Burress To Giants Or Steelers?

Oct 31, 2014 5:15 AM

It appears likely that Plaxico Burress will be playing for one of his two former teams, the Giants or the Steelers, according to team and league sources. After a dinner with Giants coach Tom Coughlin on Friday night, Burress plans to fly to Pittsburgh to meet with coach Mike Tomlin, sources said. Sources believe only a productive, fence-mending meeting between Burress and Coughlin stands between the wide receiver rejoining the Giants and making more than $10M over two years. However, Tomlin expects to make his own strong sales pitch for Burress to join the Steelers, who made him a first-round draft choice out of Michigan State in 2000, sources added.

Polamalu Open To Extension With Steelers

May 18, 2014 5:54 AM

Steelers safety Troy Polamalu wants to finish his career with the team, according to his agent. "The Steelers always have done this sort of thing the year before a contract is up," Marvin Demoff, Polamalu's agent, told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review when asked about the possibility of an extension. "There's been no discussion yet, but I'd say it's highly likely that was because of the lockout. We'd be open to it, sure. Troy's played there eight years and wants to finish his career in Pittsburgh." Polamalu signed a four-year, $30 million extension in 2007.

Rashard Mendenhall Sues Champion

Oct 31, 2014 5:15 AM

Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall is suing the parent company of the Champion sports apparel maker, calling the decision to drop his endorsement deal over his tweets about the death of Osama bin Laden and the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks a breach of contract. Mendenhall's lawyers filed suit Monday in U.S. District Court in North Carolina, seeking roughly $1 million in damages from Hanesbrands, Inc. The complaint says Champion's decision to end its endorsement deal with Mendenhall in May, days after he questioned the public celebration of bin Laden's death, violates a contract extension the two parties signed in 2010, worth more than $1 million. "For Rashard, this really is not about the money. This is about whether he can express his opinion," said Steven Thompson, a Chicago-based attorney representing Mendenhall.

Vrabel: NFLPA Doesn't Want Harrison Disciplined

Oct 8, 2014 5:20 AM

Mike Vrabel, current NFLPA advocate and former linebacker, says that the organization "would have an issue" if Steelers linebacker James Harrison is formally punished by the league. Harrison ripped NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and some of his teammates in a recent interview. "Roger's got big shoulders, Roger understands," Vrabel said. "I would say to Roger or anybody else that had a problem with it, I would say what Bill (Belichick) said to us: To (those who) much is given, much is expected. And Roger is given a lot in form of compensation and being in the situation that he's in so there's a lot expected of him. And if that means taking the higher road and calling James and trying to figure out how to get this thing settled between them or whatever issue they have going on."
