The Steelers released running back Najeh Davenport Friday, according to a report on NFL Network.
Davenport, who played in 15 games for the Steelers last season, became expendable when Illinois running back Rashard Mendenhall was selected by the team in the first round of the NFL draft.

Bradshaw Admits He Used Steroids In 1970s
Legendary quarterback Terry Bradshaw admitted last week that he used steroids during his playing days with the Steelers in the 1970s, according to The New York Daily News.
The interview took place with Sports Illustrated's Dan Patrick, during which Bradshaw did not specific what type of performance-enhancers he took.
"We did steroids to get away the aches and the speed of healing," Bradshaw said. "My use of steroids from a doctor was to speed up injury, and thought nothing of it ... It was to speed up the healing process, that was it. It wasn?t to get bigger and stronger and faster."
Asteroid Named After Ex-Steelers Announcer
An asteroid has been named after former Steelers' announcer Myron Cope, who died this past February, according to The Associated Press.
The International Astronomical Union has agreed to name an asteroid after Cope.
The asteroid orbits the sun between Mars and Jupiter and is now officially known as 7835 Myroncope. It is about three miles wide and 88 million miles from Earth. It cannot be seen by the naked eye.
'Steel Curtain' Defender White Dies At 58
Former Pittsburgh defensive end Dwight White, part of the Steel Curtain defense that led the team to four Super Bowl titles in the 1970s, has died at the age of 58, according to ESPN.com.
"We have lost an important member of the Steelers' family in Dwight White. His sudden death is a shock to us all. He was a dear friend," Steelers' team President Art Rooney II said.
"Dwight White was one of the greatest players to ever wear a Steelers' uniform," Dan Rooney said. "Dwight refused to be denied ... Dwight will be remembered by those who knew him even more for being a wonderful and caring person. He was committed to the city of Pittsburgh and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those less fortunate than himself."
