McFarland, Others Visit With Steelers

The Steelers were visited by Anthony McFarland and three draft prospects on Tuesday, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Defensive tackle Anthony "Booger" McFarland has played on two Super Bowl teams but missed all of last season with a torn patella tendon. Pittsburgh also hosted several draft prospects, including linebackers Shawn Crable (Michigan), Jerod Mayo (Tennessee), and running back Ryan Torain (Arizona State).

Steelers Sign Center Justins Hartwig

The Steelers signed free-agent center Justin Hartwig to a two-year contract on Tuesday, according to WPXI in Pittsburgh. The monetary terms of the deal were not released. Hartwig spent the last two seasons of his seven-year career with the Panthers and was originally a sixth-round draft pick of the Titans (2002).

The Steelers released Cedrick Wilson on Thursday, hours after he was charged with assaulting his estranged girlfriend at a suburban restaurant, according to an Associated Press report. In a two-paragraph statement, the Steelers give no reason for why it terminated Wilson?s contract. In three seasons with the Steelers, he caught 81 passes for 1,162 yards and two touchdowns, including 18 receptions for 207 yards last year.

Steelers' wide receiver Cedrick Wilson was charged with assaulting his estranged girlfriend at a suburban Pittsburgh restaurant Wednesday night, as reported by the Associated Press. Wilson entered the Patron Mexican Grill in Pine Township shortly before 8 p.m. and saw Lindsey Paulat sitting at the bar, according to a criminal complaint filed by Northern Regional Police.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have agreed to terms with center Justin Hartwig, according to ESPN.com's John Clayton. The two-year deal is worth $4 million, including a $975,000 signing bonus. Pittsburgh has lost guard Alan Faneca and center Jeff Hartings over the last two seasons.

Free-agent defensive back Eugene Wilson visited with the Steelers on Tuesday, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Pittsburgh was Wilson's second stop, and he left without a contract. He already met with Tampa Bay and plans to visit with the Jets and Titans before it's all said and done. Wilson has spent the past five seasons in New England.

Ben Roethlisberger has agreed to terms on a new eight-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers that will pay him $102 million, according to ESPN.com's Michael Smith. The deal includes $36 million in guarantees and is the largest of its kind in franchise history. Roethlisberger joins the $100 million club with fellow quarterbacks Peyton Manning, Donovan McNabb, Brett Favre, Carson Palmer and Michael Vick.
