DeMarco Murray Doesn't Expect To Rotate Series With Ryan Mathews

Aug 27, 2015 12:26 PM

DeMarco Murray doesn't expect to alternate series with Ryan Mathews in the Philadelphia Eagles' backfield.

"Murray gets all the headlines and attention, but I'm even more intrigued to see what the role is for Mathews and Sproles," NFL Media's Daniel Jeremiah told us in June. "... I kind of worry about those secondary runners when you get a carry here, a carry there. But the Eagles with their tempo, (Mathews is) going to get a full series and he's going to get a chance to get into a rhythm."

Chip Kelly's uptempo offense lends itself to alternating drives to keep fresh legs on the field.

"I don't think it will be alternating series," Murray said, per Corey Seidman of CSN Philly. "But (Mathews) is a quality back, great guy, works extremely hard. I'm sure he'll get his fair share of touches. But I don't know how the rotation will be yet, we haven't touched on it."

Barkley, Tebow Impress While Sanchez Struggles

Aug 16, 2015 5:53 PM

Matt Barkley and Tim Tebow each played well in the Philadelphia Eagles' first preseason game while Mark Sanchez struggled.

Barkley went 12-for-20 for 192 yards and one interception, while Sanchez was just 2-for-7 and 52 yards with one touchdown in his two series.

Tebow went 6-for-12 for 69 yards to go with a seven-yard touchdown run.

Sam Bradford didn't play and is supposed to appear in Week 2 of the preseason.

"I like how Timmy threw it,” Chip Kelly said, noting the work the passer did with pitching coach Tom House during his time away from the NFL. "That's the big concern with everybody coming in: 'Has he really changed?' And I think his sequencing is better. He got his feet underneath him. And when the guys ran the right routes and he had an opportunity to throw the football, I thought he threw the ball really well."

Several executives and coaches around the NFL believe Kelly would prefer to keep Tebow on his roster for gadget plays, fourth down situations and two-point conversions.
