Chip Kelly Wants To Remain In NFL

Dec 29, 2015 10:35 PM

Chip Kelly insists he would like to remain in the NFL following his dismissal as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Kelly was pulled into a meeting with Jeffrey Lurie and he said he didn't fight their decision.

Kelly expressed disappointment with how his tenure ended.

Kelly also said he just wants to coach at his next stop and insists he does not want to also be the personnel guy.

The Tennessee Titans have already been linked to Kelly, which would represent an opportunity for him to reunite with Marcus Mariota.

Eagles Asked Chip Kelly To Give Up Control Of Personnel Decisions

Dec 29, 2015 9:06 PM

Sal Paolantonio reports that Jeffrey Lurie has been considering changes to the structure of the Philadelphia Eagles' franchise for weeks.

Lurie considered keeping Kelly while stripping him of personnel control.

When Kelly was proposed with that scenario by Lurie, he reportedly balked at the idea.

The Eagles wanted Kelly to give up personnel control and focus on coaching.

The Eagles decided to fire Kelly before Week 17 to get a jump start on finding a candidate to replace him.

Chip Kelly remains confident in his master plan for the Philadelphia Eagles.

"It didn't go our way, but I don't think we're a bad football team," Kelly said Monday, per Reuben Frank of CSN Philly. "Not by any stretch."

Kelly produced a pair of 10-6 seasons in Year 1 and Year 2 with the Eagles before taking a step back in 2015 after a tumultuous offseason.

Since starting 9-3 last season, Kelly's club is just 7-12.

DeMarco Murray Feeling Fresh, Fine With Reduced Role

Dec 19, 2015 4:52 PM

DeMarco Murray has seen just 39 snaps and 19 carries over the past two games as the Philadelphia Eagles have reduced his role.

The Eagles were concerned all offseason how they would keep Murray fresh.

"Yes," Murray said with a smile on Thursday when asked if he was fresh, via CSN Philly. "Very fresh."

Murray signed a five-year, $40 million contract this past offseason that contains $21 million in guaranteed.

Murray is on pace for one of the worst seasons for a defending rushing champion.

Fewest Rush Yards in Season by Defending Rushing Champion Since 1970 (Min. 10 Games)

1988 LAN Charles White: 323 yards
2005 NYJ Curtis Martin: 735
2015 PHI DeMarco Murray: 754 <--- 2015 Pace (currently 603)
1986 LAA Marcus Allen: 759

Murray said he's fine with the reduced role.

"I was happy. I was fine," Murray said. "We got the win. It was a big win for us."

Sam Bradford Coy About Re-Signing With Eagles

Dec 18, 2015 1:00 PM

Chip Kelly says the Philadelphia Eagles want to re-sign Sam Bradford in the offseason.

"Obviously, it's great to hear those things, but I don't think it really means a whole lot, and it's not going to change the way I approach things," Bradford said. "I'm sure I'll pay more attention to that stuff in the offseason."

The Eagles acquired Bradford in the offseason.

"That's a couple months away," he said when asked if he was looking forward to testing the free-agent market. "I'm really just worried about these next three weeks, obviously this week against Arizona."

Bradford was asked if he likes it in Philadelphia.

"I do like it here. Obviously it's a lot different than anywhere I've ever been before. But you know what? I really do enjoy it here," he said.

Bruce Arians Was Snubbed By Bears, Eagles, Browns, Chargers

Dec 16, 2015 1:23 PM

Bruce Arians should have been one of the strongest head coaching candidates in 2013.

Arians was coming off a strong year of leading the Indianapolis Colts on an interim basis while Chuck Pagano was undergoing cancer treatment.

“While I was in Chicago, Philadelphia, Cleveland and San Diego cancelled the interviews that we had set up,” Arians said, via Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice.com. “I never got an answer [why they canceled], other than ‘Thanks, but no thanks. That day I was at the Bears, three of the teams decided to go in different directions. I was probably more disappointed because I thought I had the Bears job, and it was like a double-whammy.”

Arians eventually ended up with the Arizona Cardinals and he's become one of the NFL's best coaches.

The Browns hired Rob Chudzinski, fired him after one season, and are now 3-10 in Mike Pettine’s second season. The Bears hired Marc Trestman, fired him after two seasons, and are now 5-8 in their first year with John Fox. The Chargers hired Mike McCoy, who is now 3-10 in his third season. The Eagles hired Chip Kelly, who is now 6-7 in his third season.

Eagles Want To Keep Sam Bradford Long-Term

Dec 14, 2015 1:17 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles would still like Sam Bradford to remain their quarterback long-term.

"We've always wanted that," said Chip Kelly. "We wouldn't have traded for him if we thought that he'd only be here for a year."

The Eagles traded Nick Foles for Bradford in the offseason.

Bradford and the Eagles were unable to agree upon an extension before the start of the season.
