DeSean Jackson: Health Is No. 1 Priority
Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson had some pointed comments when asked how he deals with his failed contract holdout during the offseason.
Management refused to restructure Jackson's rookie contact, which pays him $600,000 this year. He has just four catches for 51 yards in his last two games.
"Whether I have the ball in my hands or not, I feel like I already established myself in this league as one of the great receivers," Jackson said.
"I just gotta go out there and keep doing what I can do. Stay healthy is the biggest thing. As long as I can stay healthy, regardless of where I'm playing, I think I'll be alright. Just stay healthy and go out there and do my thing."
Jackson took out an insurance policy before the season to protect himself against injury, but he certainly would stand to make more money next year if he can avoid any major incident in 2011.
"That's the No. 1 priority is to stay healthy," said Jackson. "I wouldn't be able to play the game if I wasn't healthy. In my book, that's the No. 1 priority. Winning is next in that category. As long as I'm healthy and we're winning, regardless of my numbers, I think I'll be very happy."
Harbaugh Jokes That Vick Should Rest
Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, coming off a concussion and a bruised non-throwing hand, has vowed to play against the 49ers on Sunday.
However, San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh suggested otherwise in a rare moment of humor.
"He's a great player," Harbaugh said. "I think with the (concussion) he had two weeks ago, with the hand injury this week, it would probably be the prudent thing to rest him for a week."
Philly Reporters Get Into Physical Scuffle
In a strange episode, Philadelphia-area reporters Jeff McLane of the Inquirer and Les Bowen of the Daily News got into a physical altercation on Wednesday.
The pair got into a Twitter war on Tuesday, a precursor to the incident on Wednesday.
Howard Eskin of NBC 10 and WIP reports via Twitter that Bowen "connect[ed] 2 the head" of McLane, and that the two had to be separated.
Vick Insists He's '100 Percent'
Eagles quarterback Michael Vick insists he's "100 percent" heading into Sunday's game against the 49ers.
Vick took part in a walk-through Wednesday and his injured right, non-throwing hand was good enough that he took snaps from center.
"It's a little sore," Vick told reporters. "I gotta do what I gotta do right now, and that's try to get back on the field just as fast as I can."
Vick Expected To Play If Swelling Reduces
Eagles quarterback Michael Vick will likely face the 49ers as long as the swelling in his right hand goes down, according to team sources.
The hand, which was originally diagnosed as broken, is badly bruised. Vick is a left-handed quarterback.
Canty: Hit On Vick Was Legal
Giants defensive tackle Chris Canty has insisted that there was nothing wrong with his hit that left Eagles quarterback Michael Vick with a bruised non-throwing hand.
"No, I didn't think there was anything wrong with the hit when it took place," Canty said. "I didn't think there was anything wrong with the hit after looking at it again today."
Canty hit Vick after the quarterback completed a 23-yard pass to Jeremy Maclin during the third quarter.
Replays showed Canty's helmet hit Vick's facemask, though an official who helped Vick get up seemed to indicate that Canty hit the quarterback with his shoulder.
McCoy: Giants Aren't Better Than Eagles
Eagles running back LeSean McCoy, well aware that his team lost to the rival Giants on Sunday, still believes Philadelphia is superior.
"They didn't blitz as much as we thought," McCoy said. "I don't know . . . if they were kind of scared of us going deep or what but they didn't really blitz as much as we thought."
Despite falling to 1-2, McCoy declared the Eagles better than their rival.
"That team over there is not better than us," he said. "But we can't keep saying that each week we lose."
"Everybody's hyping us up to be this great team, and we lose two games straight," he added. "Nobody's going to give us victories because we got all the best players."
Eagles Won't Change Starting LBs
Eagles defensive coordinator Juan Castillo has no plans to shuffle his group of starting linebackers.
The group has been criticized, but Castillo felt the group played well against the Giants on Sunday despite the loss.
The Eagles will host the 49ers this week.
Last week, Castillo moved Jamar Chaney from strong-side linebacker into the middle, Casey Matthews from the middle to weak-side and flipped Moise Fokou from weak-side to strong-side.
"I had a couple of blitzes where we didn't get right fits and they hit a couple of runs on us," Castillo said. "But besides that, I thought in the run game we did a decent job. I liked where the linebackers were."
Reid: Vick's Hand Is Bruised Not Broken
Michael Vick's right hand is bruised, not broken as originally feared, according to Eagles coach Andy Reid.
A CT scan showed the star quarterback bruised his hand in Sunday's loss to the Giants. Reid said X-rays taken during the game falsely showed Vick may have a fracture.
"Today, he had a scan and it showed there was no break," Reid said.
"It was a blood vessel sitting above the bone. That happens at times with X-rays. The blood vessel makes it look like it was a fracture. There is still a bunch of swelling. It is sensitive to the touch. The positive is there is not a fracture there."
Vick is left-handed and considered day-to-day for Sunday's game against the 49ers.
Vick: Referees Refuse To Protect Me
After suffering a broken right hand against the Giants on Sunday, Eagles quarterback Michael Vick vented about what he believes is unfair treatment by officials.
"That's pretty much been the story for the last three weeks," Vick said. "At some point, something catastrophic is going to happen, and I broke my hand."
Vick was injured during the third quarter when he was hit by Giants defensive tackle Chris Canty following a 23-yard pass to Jeremy Maclin.
"I felt I got hit late. No flag," Vick said.
Vick says he doesn't receives the same treatment as other NFL quarterbacks.
"I think more precautions should be taken when I'm inside the pocket," Vick said. "You look at all the replays, I'm on the ground every time. It's unfortunate for myself, it's unfortunate for my team, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't frustrated right now because of that."
Vick said he's doing all he can to stay on the field and wondered if he needs to do something else to achieve that goal.
"I am conscious of my safety, and I want to play this game and protect myself at all times even though sometimes I can't," he said. "I trust in my offensive lineman ... I guess I got to do more. There's something I'm not doing right maybe. I just got to keep pressing."
