Maclin Ready For 'Week 1'

May 17, 2014 10:33 PM

Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin says he'll be ready for Week 1 of the season. Maclin hadn't practiced until Sunday due to a cancer scare, but he will start the team's Week 1 game against the Rams. "I feel all right conditioning-wise," Maclin said. "It's just getting back out there and running routes, I haven't done that in a while, so there's definitely some work I need to do, but I think I'll get back to my normal self pretty soon."

Eagles' Maclin, Smith Practice For First Time

Oct 16, 2014 11:28 PM

Eagles wide receivers Jeremy Maclin and Steve Smith practiced with the team on Saturday for the first time this offseason. Maclin was cleared by doctors earlier this month after being stricken by an unknown illness during the offseason. Smith, signed away from the Giants, underwent microfracture surgery in December. Philadelphia coach Andy Reid said Maclin and Smith were both limited at practice Saturday, and will be evaluated on a daily basis to determine how far they can go. "If they make it through the evening fine, without any problems or setbacks, then we'll add some more onto it (on Sunday)," Reid said. "And then we'll just keep on going from there and see what happens. But really, I can't tell you the date right now on either one when they'll be ready to play."

ESPN's Vick As White Man Sparks Controversy

Oct 16, 2014 11:37 PM

ESPN The Magazine has a new article and accompanying picture that is sparking controversy and conversation. The article is titled 'What if Michael Vick were white?' and a photo illustration by D'arcy Hyde shows Vick as a white man. "Race is an undeniable and complex element of Vick's story, both because of his style as well as the rarity of black QBs in the NFL," writes Touré, the author of the piece. "A decade after he became the first black QB to be drafted No. 1 overall, about one in five of the league's passers is African-American, compared with two-thirds of all players. But after his arrest for dogfighting, so many people asked: Would a white football player have gotten nearly two years in prison for what Vick did to dogs?" Touré plugged the piece on Twitter and also spoke of his thoughts on the title. "I asked them not to call it What If Vick Were White but they did," wrote Touré. Most of the early response to the photo has been negative.

Eagles defensive tackle Mike Patterson, who collapsed and suffered a seizure at practice earlier this month, will play Thursday night against Cleveland. "I'll just be excited to be back out there with the guys, fans cheering and stuff like that," Patterson said. "So, emotionally, emotionally, I'll be really excited." Patterson was diagnosed with a brain AVM, or arteriovenous malformation, a prenatal condition in which blood travels abnormally between the arteries and veins.

Young: 'Dream Team' Talk Was Misunderstood

Oct 9, 2014 10:14 AM

Vince Young called the Eagles a "Dream Team" upon signing with the club last month. Young, who will serve as the team's No. 2 quarterback, only added pressure to Philadelphia's 2011 season when he made the comments. "That's pretty much how it go with Vince Young," the quarterback said. "My words always get taken out of context. ... We do have some really talented guys and I feel like if we continue to keep working and taking care of our responsibilities and finish like a team like we want to finish -- I feel like that's pretty much how I called it." Eagles coach Andy Reid has tried to distance himself from Young's "Dream Team" comparison, but Young believes his new team has the ability to do something special. "How everybody want to take it that's how everybody is going to take it," he said. "Just how the Miami Heat was -- them guys ended up being in the NBA Finals. So it's all about getting your chemistry right, playing together and taking stepping stones to get where you want to be."

Castillo: Philly's 'Linebackers Will Be Ready To Win The Super Bowl'

Oct 16, 2014 11:27 PM

Eagles defensive coordinator Juan Castillo insists his group of linebackers will be ready to play this season. Philadelphia has added a number of impact players this offseason, but they have yet to sign a veteran linebacker. Meanwhile, they allowed Stewart Bradley to leave via free agency. They'll rely on Akeem Jordan, Jamar Chaney, Casey Matthews and Moise Fokou. "They're young kids that they drafted. It takes time to develop kids," Castillo said. "It's a process, and it's our job to develop the kids and make them better. I'm responsible and I have to do a better job, and they'll continue to get better just because we're doing the right things. We're doing the right fundamentals, and it takes time. "The linebackers will be ready to win the Super Bowl," Castillo added. "Remember, it takes 16 weeks, and then really whoever is playing their best during the playoffs. So when you look at it, there's time to develop. You can say that there's not, but the key is, who's playing or fundamentally who's the best come Week 8, 9, 10 -– and during that crunch time. And over the years we've been pretty good during that time, and we'll continue to do that. The young kids will get better just because they're working the proper fundamentals."
