March 2011 - Philadelphia Eagles Wiretap
Eagles Won't Have Vick, Maclin
The Eagles have ruled out quarterback Michael Vick (ribs), wide receiver Jeremy Maclin (hamstring and shoulder) for Thursday night's game against the Seahawks.
In addition, Philadelphia will be without cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (ankle), linebacker Moise Fokou (ankle) and tackle King Dunlap (concussion).
Eagles cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha (knee) and running back LeSean McCoy (toe) are questionable and will be game-time decisions.
Eagles Coaches Talk To Reid After Spat
Eagles defensive line coach Jim Washburn and offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg had a heated exchange during Sunday's loss to the Patriots that led a follow-up talk with head coach Andy Reid.
"Things happen. It's an emotional game," Reid said. "It doesn't matter if you're coaches or players, things happen. So you take care of business like grown men. They've talked. I've talked. They've worked it out and we're fine here."
The Eagles have to rebound quickly from a 38-20 loss to the Patriots and get ready for Thursday night's game at Seattle.
With Philadelphia close to elimination from playoff contention in a season that began with enormous expectations, most of the attention before practice centered on the coaches' fight.
"A couple tempers, you know," defensive tackle Trevor Laws said. "Jim Washburn's a fiery guy, no doubt about that. Anybody that's been following the team all year has probably seen him get in multiple fights, so I don't know why this thing is such a big deal, to tell you the truth.
"He's Jim Washburn. He's a fiery guy with a chip on his shoulder, and he says what's on his mind. Sometimes he rubs people the wrong way, but to tell you the truth, that attitude is spread down the defensive line and actually improves our play, and I think we've kind of been the fiery heart of this team, and I think that's from Jim Washburn."
Vick Expected To Miss Third Game
Vince Young will likely make his third straight start for the Eagles on Thursday night against the Seahawks.
Michael Vick is expected to miss his third game with a pair of broken ribs. He threw on the sidelines, but did not fully participate in practice Tuesday.
Young threw for 400 yards with a touchdown and an interception in last Sunday's loss to the Patriots.
DeSean Jackson Says He Wants To Remain With Philadelphia
DeSean Jackson says he wants to return to the Eagles after his rookie contract expires at the end of the season.
"Yes, sir," Jackson said. "That's where I'm at and this is what I love to do, play football, regardless of what the case may be."
Jackson flirted with a holdout this summer, unhappy that his production over the past few years wasn't rewarded with a long-term extension.
He was benched for the team's Week 10 game against the Cardinals after missing a weekend meeting. In addition, he sat out the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to the Patriots after dropping two touchdown passes.
"It's a new week. We're moving on," Jackson said. "We're all focused on what we need to do. We have five games left, and we'll give it our best effort."
Eagles Defend Reid After 'Fire Andy' Chants
The Eagles are a hugely disappointing 4-7 and have lost eight of their last nine home games.
During Sunday afternoon's loss to the visiting Patriots, fans in Philadelphia briefly chanted "Fire Andy" at Lincoln Financial Field.
The Eagles have been coached by Andy Reid for 13 seasons.
"It's horrible. You know what type of coach Coach Reid is," tight end Brent Celek said. "You never want to hear that. And I know he doesn't want to hear it, but it's us players that are out there putting a bad product on the field. We've got to pick it up. I mean, we love him as a coach, but we as players have to put the product on the field.
"I know the fans are frustrated. I mean, I guess they don't know what else to do. They're paying a lot of money to come to these games and watch us play, and we've got a talented team, and we're just not playing that way."
LeSean McCoy, the NFL's leading rusher, defended Reid strongly.
"Andy's not going nowhere," he said. "He's a good coach. Everybody knows that. As players we need to fight for him a little more, a little harder. We just have to make plays. Coach can't go out there and play. You know he's not going anywhere. That's just kind of fans talking."
Eagles Bench Jackson In Fourth Quarter
Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson spent the fourth quarter of the team's 38-20 loss to the Patriots on the sideline Sunday.
Jackson dropped two touchdown passes earlier in the game.
"I just wanted to give the other guys an opportunity," coach Andy Reid told reporters.
Jackson dropped what should have been a four-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, and then let another potential touchdown on a deep pass from Vince Young go through his hands during the third quarter.
"Things happen sometimes," Jackson said. "As a player, honestly, you're upset when you drop passes like I did tonight. Sometimes you have a bad game, and tonight definitely wasn't my best game. There were a couple of plays I thought I should have made, but didn't. I know I'm a better receiver than that."
Reid On 'Fire Andy' Chants: I Didn't Hear Them
After 13 successful seasons with Andy Reid, Philadelphia fans have had enough of the coach.
During the team's 38-20 loss to the Patriots on Sunday, twice fans could be heard chanting "Fire Andy!"
After the game, Reid claimed he didn't hear the chants.
"I didn't hear them," Reid said. "The way we played I can understand it."
Reid has two years and $10 million left on his contract.
Eagles Coaches Fight On Sideline During Game
In the first half of Philadelphia's 38-20 loss to New England on Sunday, defensive line coach Jim Washburn and offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg got into a heated verbal exchange on the sideline.
The exchange happened early, when the Eagles still held a lead. While it was brief, the two had to be separated by sideline personnel.
Details of their disagreement were not revealed, but the argument typified the season, which has been all about frustration.
Belichick Gives Patriots Rare In-Season Praise
Patriots coach Bill Belichick gave his team rare in-season praise following Sunday afternoon's win over the Eagles in Philadelphia.
"I know we demand a lot and this isn't an easy place to play, and I'm not an easy guy to play for, but they have tried to respond," Belichick said.
"I give them a lot of credit for that."
The Patriots, dealing with a host of injuries, fell behind 10-0 to the Eagles in the first quarter.
"Coming back like we did showed a little bit of mental toughness, which we've shown consistently throughout the year," Tom Brady said.
