March 2010 - Philadelphia Eagles Wiretap
Gaither Signs One-Year Tender With Eagles
Restricted free-agent linebacker Omar Gaither has signed a one-year tender offer from the Eagles.
Gaither started the first three games of last season for Philadelphia at middle linebacker, but was benched in favor of Jeremiah Trotter in Week 5.
Philadelphia No Longer Shopping Vick
While a majority of the attention surrounding the Eagles involves a possible Donovan McNabb trade, the team still has two other viable quarterbacks.
ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reports that the Eagles are still getting calls about Kevin Kolb.
In addition, a team source says that Philadelphia is no longer shopping Michael Vick.
Source: No Frontrunner For McNabb
The Eagles continue to discuss possible trades involving quarterback Donovan McNabb, but nothing appears imminent.
"There is no so-called front-runner," a senior team official told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio.
"We continue to engage in conversations with multiple teams that initially contacted us. Some of the offers involve draft picks, some involve a player, some involve many players. We are evaluating the offers. But if some team had totally blown us away, we would probably have made a deal already."
Earlier this week it was reported that the Raiders were the frontrunner to land McNabb, but those reports appear to be premature.
Oakland, however, does have the pieces needed to acquire McNabb from Philadelphia.
Sources: Raiders, Eagles Haven't Discussed McNabb
Two Raiders employees have told the Oakland Tribune that the team has not discussed quarterback Donovan McNabb with the Eagles.
An ESPN report Monday said that the Raiders are the leading candidate to land McNabb in a much-rumored trade.
Eagles Re-Sign Hobbs, Gocong To Tenders
The Eagles have re-signed cornerback Ellis Hobbs and linebacker Chris Gocong to one-year contracts.
Both players were restricted free agents and each signed his tender offer.
Weaver Wants McNabb In Philadelphia
Eagles fullback Leonard Weaver wants to see Donovan McNabb remain with the team.
"I'm surprised," Weaver told NFL Sirius Radio of the trade rumors swirling around McNabb. "Let the man go ahead and play the last year of his contract out. ... Not a knock on (backup quarterback Kevin) Kolb, but I would love for Donovan to come back for another year so we can try to win it all."
Last season was Weaver's first with Philadelphia.
Scout: Kolb Better Suited For Eagles Than McNabb
If the Eagles end up trading Donovan McNabb, Kevin Kolb will step into the starting role.
While Kolb doesn't have McNabb's arm strength, at least one NFL scout believes that he'd be better for Philadelphia's system.
"He can throw the slant better than McNabb," the scout said. "And that's a throw you'd want to master if you're playing in the traditional West Coast."
A former NFL coach added that the only way for the Eagles to find out if Kolb is ready is to simply throw him out there.
"He's been trained well, and the position comes naturally to him," said the coach. "I think he has it. But there's really only one way to know for sure, and that's to throw him out there."
Sources: Raiders Emerge As Top McNabb Suitor
The Raiders have emerged as the leading candidate to land Donovan McNabb in a trade, sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter.
All the ingredients for a trade are in place, according to the sources. Oakland is the team that has been most willing to match Philadelphia's asking price.
The Eagles are looking for a top-42 pick in any package for McNabb. The Raiders have the 39th overall pick, their second-round selection.
Source: Mesko To Work Out For Eagles
Punter Zoltan Mesko is set to workout for the Eagles on Tuesday at the University of Michigan, according to a source.
The All-Big Ten Conference punter held a private workout with the Chiefs last week.
McNabb Has Impact On Possible Trades
The Eagles are listening to trade offers for quarterback Donovan McNabb as the offseason progresses, but trading him isn't necessarily cut and dry.
McNabb has one year remaining on his contract and the News Journal points out that he'll likely have to agree on a long-term contract before any team agrees to pay what is believed to be a hefty price for him.
It was reported last week that Philadelphia wants a top-42 pick in any package for McNabb, making a long-term pact even more important.
