March 2010 - Philadelphia Eagles Wiretap
Eagles Could Target Julius Peppers
The Eagles could be one of defensive end Julius Peppers' suitors this offseason.
According to a league source, Philadelphia is on the free agent's short list of teams.
The Eagles front office hasn't discussed Peppers, likely because comments could result in tampering.
Holmgren 'Astounded' By Fans Disloyalty To McNabb
Browns general manager Mike Holmgren can't believe that fans in Philadelphia have written off Donovan McNabb yet again.
"I'm astounded by that," ESPN.com's Matt Mosley. "I'm like most of the folks around the league. With all that he's done for that team over the long haul...I guess part of it's that he hasn't been able to get over the hump [and win a Super Bowl]."
Holmgren thinks McNabb could end up playing as long as Brett Favre or Kurt Warner as well.
"It's looking like, physically, he could play a long time," said Holmgren. "But he's a guy that when he loses the ability to move around, it'll probably be near the end."
Westbrook Plans To Play In 2010
Brian Westbrook may be done in Philadelphia, but he still plans to play this upcoming season.
"My plan is not to retire," Westbrook told Philadelphia radio station 97.5 The Fanatic. "My plan is to continue to play football."
Westbrook was released by the Eagles on Tuesday.
The running back said his agent has already heard from three or four teams about his availability for 2010.
"There's 32 teams out there," Westbrook said. "Hopefully I'll have an opportunity to go and play with another team."
Eagles Release Brian Westbrook
The Philadelphia Eagles announced Tuesday they have released two-time Pro Bowl running back Brian Westbrook.
"Brian is one of the greatest Eagles of all time and he is an even better person and leader," coach Andy Reid said. "In my mind, there has not been a more versatile running back that the NFL has seen. I had a conversation with Brian this morning to let him know. This is by far the most difficult part of this job. We wanted to make this move in order to maximize Brian's chances of landing with another NFL team."
Owens: Donovan And I Are Friends
Terrell Owens will be on the YES Network's 'CenterStage' this month.
In the interview with Michael Kay, Owens discusses his relationship with former Eagles teammate Donovan McNabb.
"I can honestly say I appreciate those years and Donovan and I are friends and, actually we were just hanging out last night as a matter of fact," Owens said.
"So it was one of those things where ? again ? it started off well, it didn't end well. Sometimes, I wish it could have ended on a positive note."
49ers Out Of McNabb Race?
The 49ers don't appear very interested in Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.
Matt Maiocco of the Press Democrat writes that San Francisco appears confident in Alex Smith as their starting quarterback in 2010.
"For the first time, he will not have to spend the offseason learning a new system. He has a better supporting cast than any point in his career," Maiocco writes.
Andrews Would Restructure To Remain In Philly
Eagles offensive lineman Stacy Andrews is willing to restructure his contract.
Andrews signed a six-year, $38.9 million deal as a free agent last offseason, but started just two games in 2009.
"I would do a minor restructuring of my contract," Andrews told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "They want to do an adjustment and we're willing. Hopefully, we can come to an agreement."
He was considered a possible replacement for Jon Runyan at right tackle, but when minicamp came around the Eagles moved his younger brother, Shawn, from right guard to right tackle and Stacy was switched to right guard.
"The team said it would be best for Shawn to play tackle," Stacy Andrews said. "At first I felt uncomfortable about it, but I was like, 'Hey. it's my little brother and it will help his back out.'"
Sources: Vick Will Remain In Philly Through Preseason
The Eagles haven't initiated trade talks involving quarterback Michael Vick, but that doesn't mean they won't at some point.
Philadelphia has until March 5 to deal Vick without having to pay him a $1.5 million roster bonus.
League sources told NFL.com that a move before the March 5 deadline is unlikely because negotiations haven't begun.
Sources from two teams who would be in the market for a quarterback said they don't expect Vick to be dealt until the preseason.
Kolb Says He's Not In Contract Talks
Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb has refuted rumors that he's in contract negotiations with the team.
"We haven't even talked to them as far as I know," the quarterback told Howard Eskin and Ike Reese on WIP-AM (via Sports Radio Interviews). "That totally blew me away whenever that was reported because it was obviously false. Yeah, that has not been discussed yet."
Kolb, who was drafted in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft, is waiting to see what Philadelphia decides to do with him, Donovan McNabb and Michael Vick.
"It's tough, but I know it's an even harder situation for the Eagles," Kolb said. "There are three of us out there that can play, so I am going to keep their feelings in mind and try to remain positive no matter what happens."
Westbrook 'Not Sure' He'll Return To Philadelphia
Eagles running back Brian Westbrook isn't sure if he'll remain with the team for the 2010 season.
"I'm not sure. That's one of those things that really is up to them," Westbrook told Dan Rather of HDNet's Dan Rather Reports.
"I'm under contract another year, and I would love to be in Philadelphia. There's no other team that I would love to play for more than the Philadelphia Eagles. But it's a situation where in the NFL, younger, cheaper is better for teams. It's one of those things. It's part of the business. I experienced it when I was younger, and I experience a different aspect now. You have to try and find out, for the team, what's better for them."
Westbrook is due more than $7 million in 2010.
