Eagles CB Sounds Off On 'Brady Rule'

May 16, 2014 11:30 PM

Eagles cornerback Sheldon Brown doesn't believe that the new 'Brady Rule' will change how players approach the game. "You're just going to see a lot more fines because of this [rule]," said Brown. "Nobody is going to take the time to get up off the ground to hit a quarterback. So you'll have guys make the play, pay the fines, write it off on their taxes and move on. Whoever made that rule is crazy."

Weaver Admits Philadelphia Was 'Secondary' Choice

May 19, 2014 9:38 PM

Fullback Leonard Weaver, who recently signed a one-year deal with the Eagles, has admitted that the team wasn't his first choice. Weaver had hoped to remain in Seattle with the Seahawks. "Anytime you can start your career somewhere, of course you'd love to say there," Weaver said. "But any time you have an opportunity to go somewhere else where you can excel, that's what you do." He opened up to the Tacoma News-Tribune back in the Washington area. "It's just been a hard deal knowing I want to be here [in Seattle], and I made that clear to the organization a number of times, and here it is we still can't get nothing done. "And now it resorts to this, where I have to make a secondary choice, which I did. So, it makes it very tough."

Smith: I Was 'Treated Like A Number' In Philly

May 16, 2014 10:24 PM

Tight end L.J. Smith spent his first six seasons with the Eagles, but signed with the Ravens in the offseason. Smith told The Monty Show on Sporting News Radio that he wasn't happy with how things ended with the Eagles and that he was never able express his displeasure about a situation in which he felt he was "treated like a number" in Philly. "There were a lot of things that I felt like should have been handled differently," said Smith. "You know, there were a couple of times where Coach (Andy Reid) should have came up to me and told me what what going on and how he was looking at things and how he was handling situations and what direction he wanted to go, but it didn't happen like that. "As a player, you never want to hear things through the media. Everyone's wrong, and everyone obviously had to do the right thing to get to this point in the NFL, and you just want to be treated like that. You want to be treated like a man before an athlete. I think a lot of times in the NFL, coaches forget that. There so involved with the numbers and schemes, and they forget how to approach a player, and I just felt like a couple of times throughout the season last year, there were a couple of coaches who forgot that."

Reid Explains Logic Behind Benching McNabb

May 16, 2014 8:47 PM

Eagles coach Andy Reid explained some of the logic behind his decision to bench Donovan McNabb in Week 12's loss to the Ravens in an interview with ESPN. "I've got to do what's best for the football team," Reid said. "And, honestly, in that situation, what I thought was best for Donovan. You never know how things are going to go. I could sit here and tell you, 'Ah, I knew everything would work out like it did.' But you never know what's going to happen in this game when you do things like that. But I felt like it had to happen. "Donovan is the type of person that carries the world on his back. As a result of that, at times, people around him expect him to carry the world on his back. And they're not doing their jobs to their fullest. It's too much. Too much for one person to do. That's the point where this got to. "It wasn't from Donovan not trying or doing anything wrong. No human can do what he was trying to do. We were leading the league in drops. We weren't playing great defense during that stretch. The offensive line was struggling. Everybody was having their thing. And to be honest with you, I wasn't coaching very good. Everybody needed to pick their game up. And that's kind of what happened after that."

Harbaugh: Philly's Kolb Has Potential

Oct 28, 2014 5:55 AM

Ravens coach John Harbaugh, a former Eagles assistant, believes that Philadelphia backup quarterback Kevin Kolb has potential as a starter. Harbaugh had a front-row seat in Week 12 when Eagles coach Andy Reid benched Donovan McNabb at halftime in favor of Kolb. "I thought he did pretty well, actually," Harbaugh said of Kolb. "He moved them down the field on that one drive [in the fourth quarter], and then Ed Reed made just a ridiculous play. An Ed Reed-type play." He reiterated that Kolb has the stuff to be a true starter. "All I know is I saw Kevin Kolb every day in practice for a year when I was the secondary coach [in '07], where he was going against the defense as the scout-team quarterback," Harbaugh said. "When we did red zone, we couldn't defend him. I mean, he'd run the red-zone offense for the team we were going to play. We had the No. 1-ranked red-zone defense in the league 2 years ago. And we couldn't stop Kevin Kolb. Throwing to Mike Gasperson every day in practice. He picked us apart. "[Eagles coaches] love him. He has all the tools. He's a leader. He's tough. He plays the game the right way."

Eagles Could Move Up Into Top 5?

Oct 28, 2014 5:55 AM

The Eagles have two first round picks for the first time in sixteen years, and believe that there is a lot they can accomplish with their 12 overall picks. "Throw in the 12 picks, and we can do anything we want," general manager Tom Heckert said. "We can probably get up as high as we want or we can sit there and pick who's there, but we have enough ammunition to do anything we want." Heckert believes that Philadelphia might be able to get themselves all the way up into the top five if they so desire.
