March 2009 - Philadelphia Eagles Wiretap
Westbrook Misses Another Practice
Eagles running back Brian Westbrook missed another practice on Friday.
He suffered a concussion in Philadelphia's win over Washington on Monday night.
"It's going to be a game-day decision," coach Andy Reid said of Westbrook. "We're waiting to get more tests back and see how they look. So far the tests we have done this week have looked OK. But it comes down to a matter of time."
The Eagles are set to face the Giants in Philadelphia this Sunday.
Donovan Doesn't Regret Picking Up Giants' Phone
The Giants put a picture of Donovan McNabb picking up a telephone on their sideline during last year's playoff game on their bulletin board this week.
On a conference call with Giants media, McNabb didn?t apologize for the spur of the moment act.
?I don?t have any regrets for doing it,? McNabb said. ?But in this game, do you really need any psychological motivation? I don?t think so. If you need any little thing that happened during a game last year or years before, then really you?re not truly focused on week in and week out trying to be the best at what you do.?
Giants coach Tom Coughlin denied the bulletin board story adding, ?I don?t have anything to say about it.?
Concussion Knocked Westbrook Out
Eagles running back Brian Westbrook was knocked out with a concussion during Monday night's win over the Giants.
Westbrook walked off the field after laying motionless for several moments.
Philadelphia has back-to-back games against rivals New York and Dallas on the schedule.
"We obviously know in this division, it can be a half-game, a game away from you being in first or you being in second," quarterback Donovan McNabb said.
Westbrook will go through medical tests before his status for next week is determined.
Cooley, Westbrook Suffer Injuries On MNF
Redskins tight end Chris Cooley and Eagles running back Brian Westbrook both suffered injuries on Monday night.
Philadelphia defeated Washington 27-17 in the Week 7 battle.
Westbrook left with a concussion in the first quarter.
"We'll just see. We'll see how he is. I'm not going to put him out there when he's at risk," Eagles coach Andy Reid said of his status for Sunday's game against the Giants.
Cooley broke his right ankle on the first play of the second quarter and will be out "for a while," coach Jim Zorn said.
Westbrook Wants More Touches
Eagles running back Brian Westbrook believes that he'd be very effective if given more touches.
"I think I can play," Westbrook told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I think I can make some plays when I have the ball in my hands. It's very hard to show people what you can do when you don't have the opportunities. I think as the season goes on I will get those opportunities, and when I do, I think I will show people that I can still play."
Westbrook carried the ball 751 times between 2006-08.
The Eagles drafted LeSean McCoy this April in hopes of lessening Westbrook's load this season.
"It's frustrating because you want to be able to help the team," Westbrook said. "I'm a positive person. I'm always thinking the next series I'll get the ball, the next play I'll touch it. ... I really don't get too down during the game. Of course, after the game you look at the stats, you look at production ... you kind of say, 'Wow.' "
Curtis, Gaither Undergo Surgeries
Eagles wide receiver Kevin Curtis and linebacker Omar Gaither have both undergone surgeries.
Philadelphia will be without Gaither for the remainder of the season, but they are hoping to get Curtis back.
"I think time will tell here, but I think so," Reid told the Inquirer.
Curtis missed the team's last three games with the knee injury.
"They didn't see much in the MRI," Reid said. "MRIs don't always show everything so they went in and just checked things out. There wasn't too much in there that they had to work on. They just snipped a few little things in there, but it wasn't a major thing."
Vick's Playing Time Won't Change
The Eagles aren't planning to use Michael Vick any more than they have so far this season.
"We signed him as a backup quarterback," coach Andy Reid told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "We have gotten probably a little bit more out of him than I thought we would have out of our other backup quarterbacks."
The Eagles signed Vick in August as a backup behind starter Donovan McNabb.
"His presence is a threat," offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said.
Haynesworth Questionable Against Eagles
Redskins tackle Albert Haynesworth is questionable for Monday night's game against the Eagles.
He is suffering from a sprained ankle, but practiced with the team on Saturday. Haynesworth will be a game-time decision.
Poor Tackling Doesn't Concern Samuel
Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel isn't concerned about his tackling.
"I didn't get signed here because I was a great tackler," Samuel told the News Journal. "Everybody [on the coaching staff] saw my film."
Philadelphia signed him to a $54 million deal last offseason to intercept passes, he says.
Samuel has four interceptions so far this season, but has been criticized for his tackling technique. He missed a tackle against Oakland last Sunday that lead to tight end Zach Miller's 86-yard touchdown.
"I work hard on my tackling every day," Samuel said with a smile.
Eagles Lose Another Middle Linebacker
Eagles coach Andy Reid says that middle linebacker Omar Gaither will miss the remainder of the season after having foot surgery.
Gaither suffered the injury against the Raiders on Sunday.
He is the second middle linebacker that Philadelphia has lost for the season after Stewart Bradley tore his ACL during the preseason.
