Reid Is A Huge Fan Of Eagles' Jackson
Eagles' Coach Andy Reid is a huge fan of rookie wide receiver DeSean Jackson, according to Philadelphia Inquirer.
It's rare that a rookie receiver stars in the Eagles' offense, but DeSean appears primed to be a feature in Philadelphia with Kevin Curtis and Reggie Brown far from one-hundred percent.
Jackson is so important to the team that Reid decided to sit the receiver in the team's preseason finale against the Jets on Thursday.
"It's one of those subjective decisions there," Reid said. "I thought he had been playing well enough where he could sit this one out."
"I was thinking of that when I decided to sit him," the coach added. "I can't think of another time right off the top of my head. Maybe there was one."
Dawkins Expects To Be Ready For Eagles' Opener
Philadelphia safety Brian Dawkins is expected to be ready for the team's season opener against St. Louis despite spraining his right ankle on Friday, according to The Associated Press.
Dawkins had an MRI Saturday and did not practice Sunday but expects to be ready by Week One.
"I believe so. It's really a day-to-day situation right now," Coach Andy Reid said of whether Dawkins will be ready to play.
"Just from my past experiences with things like this, I didn't feel anything different than what I was thinking that it was just a sprain," said Dawkins. "It's just one of those things that, when you have an injury after the game, you get a little sore. After that, it starts feeling a lot better."
Vincent Could Get Shot To Lead NFLPA
Former Eagles and Bills cornerback Troy Vincent could be on the short list to replace recently-deceased NFLPA executive directer Gene Upshaw, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
General counsel Richard Berthelsen is currently the interim executive director.
Vincent's four-year term as the NFLPA president ended in March, and it appeared that Upshaw and Vincent were not on the same page for a variety of reasons.
"It's been no secret that this has been Troy's ambition for a while," a league agent said. "Gene made some strong statements about not planning to leave. I'm sure a number of people will want the position, but I think Troy will be high on the list of qualified people."
Eagles' Sheppard Won't Give Up On New Deal
Eagles' cornerback Lito Sheppard hasn't given up hope that he could receive a new deal from the team, according to The Philadelphia Daily News.
Sheppard claims that he is "totally happy right now" with agent Drew Rosenhaus and his efforts to get the contract he thinks he deserves.
"I don't want fans to get on him for my situation," said Sheppard.
Eagles' Curtis 'Out A While' With Hernia
Philadelphia receiver Kevin Curtis will be out "for a while" after he undergoes surgery for a sports hernia, according to ESPN.com.
Coach Andy Reid said Curtis is expected to return this season, but the procedure will definitely keep him out of the season opener against the Rams.
"He tried to work through it but wasn't able to function very well with it during practice, so we decided to go this direction," Reid said.
Brady May Miss Game Against Eagles
Tom Brady may miss New England's preseason game against Philadelphia on Friday because of his right foot injury, according to The Boston Globe.
"I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm trying to get treatment this week and I'm feeling better every day," Brady said Monday. "It's going to end up being up to coach [Bill Belichick] and what he wants to do, but I think he's been coaching long enough to understand that the first game in September is what's going to be important for us."
Brady has yet to take the field this preseason.
"You know the preseason is important, but I think the idea is to be ready for when the regular season kicks off," said Brady. "If I can be out there, then I'll be out there, but it remains to be seen. We spent some time this weekend getting treatment on my foot and hoping that it responds quickly, like it usually does."

Donovan On T.O.: It Could've Been Great
Donovan McNabb says injuries that forced him to miss eight games the last two seasons may have made him a better quarterback, that the Eagles are "at the top of the NFC", and that he's prepared to move to a new team if the Eagles decide they want to go in a different direction.
And, he says if Terrell Owens had stayed with Philadelphia instead of leaving for Dallas after a season-long squabble, "It could've been great."
