Sheppard Reports To Eagles' Camp

Oct 6, 2014 12:20 PM

Cornerback Lito Sheppard reported to Philadelphia's mandatory mini-camp on Friday, ending rumors that he might hold out until the team either trades him or gives him a new contract, according to the Associated Press. The two-time Pro Bowler found himself on the trading block this offseason after the Eagles signed free agent defensive back Asante Samuel. "We all know the situation at hand," Sheppard told reporters Friday. "It still stands unresolved, but I'm here. I'm here to practice and that's what I'm focused on right now. That's pretty much it." He is currently signed with Philadelphia through the 2011 season, and the team doesn't have a history of tolerating disgruntled players.

Eagles Now Looking To Keep Lito?

Oct 21, 2014 3:20 PM

It appears as though the Eagles now want to keep cornerback Lito Sheppard in town after a month or so of trade rumors, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. After the signing of free agent Asante Samuel, Sheppard appeared to be the odd man out in the team's secondary. Soon after the Eagles claimed that he would be traded no later than the draft, but that deadline is now a thing of the past. After claiming they had numerous offers, Philly seemed to change their tune after last weekend. "We'll see how it goes," Coach Andy Reid said after the first two rounds of the draft came and went without a trade. "There's still some people interested. But he's a good football player. I'm not just going to give him away. That's not what I'm going to do here." The team could entertain the idea of rotating Samuel, Sheppard, Sheldon Brown, and Joselio Hanson at cornerback this season.

Dawkins Likes Lito, Hates Situation

Oct 21, 2014 3:20 PM

Eagles safety Brian Dawkins likes teammate Lito Sheppard and hates the situation the cornerback has been placed in this offseason, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. After signing free agent Asante Samuel, the Eagles have three corners worthy of starting (Samuel, Sheppard and Sheldon Brown). "The way it has played out, I don't see those three guys being here at the same time," Dawkins said. "It's a tough situation to be in, and this is somebody I'm close to and I consider a close friend. I don't like it for him. Whatever happens, I hope it works out best for Lito. I hate that this is happening to him." "You understand there's a business side of things, but. . .business can be handled in a better manner," the safety added. "I just don't see how it can work out here. I really don't."
