The Eagles cut seven-year veteran Dhani Jones on Monday, thinning a linebacking corps made crowded by offseason additions. Jones was largely a disappointment after he joined the Eagles as a free agent in 2005 following four seasons with the Giants. He struggled with the Eagles after being moved to the strong side from his natural weakside position.

The Eagles are a team with glaring needs at defensive end, defensive back and running back, but picked Kevin Kolb, a quarterback, with the 36th overall selection in the second round. "They had faith in my skills in what I do and I am anxious to get behind these older guys and get to learn from them over the next however long," Kolb said. Andy Reid tried to leave a message for Donovan McNabb to not worry. "No, I'm partial to Donovan," Reid said. "I think he's the best in the NFL. He doesn't have anything to worry about. He'll go do his job. It's strictly how the (draft) board fell. I wasn't trying to send a message or that Donovan's hurt. It's none of that. That's not what this is all about."

Brian Westbrook received an extra $3 million from the Eagles in an accounting error. The running back intends to pay the team back after getting his roster bonus twice. However, the Eagles filed a grievance with the NFL against Westbrook because the money hasn't been repaid yet, a team spokesman said Saturday.
