Reid Not Backing Down To Owens

Nov 8, 2014 4:15 AM

Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid is standing firm on his position not to negotiate with always-disgruntled wide receiver Terrell Owens regarding a new contract. "It's pretty simple," Reid said. "Either [Owens] is going to show up or he is not going to show up. He is going to play or he is not going to play. I said this before: Would we like to have T.O.? Sure. Can we plug someone else in there and still win Super Bowls? Yeah, absolutely." The mood around the Eagles camp is positive with many players believing they will be fine without Owens should he holdout. "Of course I think with T.O. here we're a better offense," running back Brian Westbrook said. "But I also feel without him here, we feel like we're good enough to get things done. We feel like we've done it without T.O. before." Owens, apparently, is still unclear as to the definition of the term ?contract.?

Odds Of Owens Showing Up To Training Camp Set At 50-50

Nov 8, 2014 4:17 AM

Terrell Owens agent, Drew Rosenhaus has put the odds at 50-50 in regards to the receiver showing up for the team?s mandatory training camp August 1. Owens and Rosenhaus have said that a reworked deal will get the consummate holdout into camp. "I'm saying this based on the fact that I have confidence in the Philadelphia Eagles organization that they are going to work with me in a capacity that will be satisfactory," Rosenhaus said during an interview with Washington Post columnists Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser on ESPN's Pardon The Interruption. Eagles "There's nothing for us to really do," Banner said. "There's nothing to figure out. You can write about this as often as you want, but in the end, Terrell Owens has to decide whether he wants to play or he doesn't want to play. Either way, we're going to be a very good team that we believe is capable of achieving our goals. We'd rather have him honor his contract and be here, but that's up to him." president Joe Banner is not backing down to Owens? demands.

The Silver And Black Bestseller

Nov 8, 2014 4:16 AM

Randy Moss' new Oakland Raiders jersey was the best selling shirt in the NFL and the Philadelphia Eagles led the league in merchandising sales as they reached the Super Bowl for the first time in 25 seasons. Moss, traded by the Minnesota Vikings to Oakland, led individual sales -- not unusual for a high-profile player who joins a new team and has his number changed (84 to 18). That his new team is the Raiders, a traditionally strong seller, adds to the appeal. As usual, several first-round draft choices were among the top 25, led by Tampa Bay running back Carnell Williams, who was eighth. Alex Smith, the first pick in the draft by San Francisco, was 12th; Cleveland's Braylon Edwards was 13th; Miami's Ronnie Brown was 15th and Chicago's Cedric Benson was 23rd.

Westbrook Ends Two-Month Holdout, Signs One Year Contract

May 27, 2014 9:17 PM

Running back Brian Westbrook showed up at the Eagles' voluntary passing camp Wednesday, ending his two-month contract holdout. He signed his $1.43 million, one-year tender offer Wednesday and will participate in the team's optional camp. Westbrook, one of the most versatile player in the NFL, is coming off a breakout season in which he led the team with 1,515 total yards and was tops among NFL running backs with 73 catches for 703 yards and six touchdowns, despite sitting out the last two regular season games. Westbrook was a key component of the Eagles' trip to the Super Bowl and caught a 10-yard touchdown pass in the Eagles' 24-21 loss to the Patriots. He has been seeking a long-term contract but had until June 15 to sign a $1.43 million restricted free agent tender or risk having it reduced. Westbrook, who still would prefer a multiyear deal, is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2005 season. In his three-year career, Westbrook has rushed for 1,618 yards and 10 touchdowns and caught 119 passes for 1,121 yards and 10 scores.
