Derek Carr Wishes William Hayes Landed On Him Instead Of Tearing ACL

Sep 26, 2018 6:01 PM

Derek Carr said he wishes William Hayes of the Miami Dolphins would have landed on him instead of tearing his ACL.

The NFL has called penalties on pass rushers for landing on quarterbacks.

"I wish the guy would have just landed on me instead of tearing his ACL," Carr said Wednesday, via Michael Gelhken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "For him to tear his ACL, nobody wants that. I don't want that."

"I'm cool with it because I want to be safe and sound, but at the same time, let's play football," Deshaun Watson said, via John McClain of the Houston Chronicle. "It goes both ways. Some of the times, when the defensive guys are trying to hold up, they get hurt. I'm the quarterback, and I'm being honest with you, let the guys play and see how it goes."

Jon Gruden Believes Derek Carr 'Trying Too Hard' At Times

Sep 25, 2018 8:26 AM

The Oakland Raiders are winless through three games and Jon Gruden says Derek Carr may be trying too hard at times.

"I think, at times, he's trying too hard," Gruden said of his quarterback. "But we'll talk about that extensively here in the next couple hours. But I thought he played really good under some very tough circumstances.

"I think sometimes he needs to learn a little more patience and I think he will. But I'm really excited about the way that he has played and improved and mastered this offense. We're getting closer. That was a painful turnover. We will address that, and we'll make the corrections."

Carr threw a fourth-quarter interception in the end zone in Oakland's 28-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

Raiders Want Derek Carr, Amari Cooper To Spark Offense

Sep 13, 2018 8:23 AM

The Oakland Raiders managed just 13 points in their Week 1 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, but Jon Gruden believes the offense can easily be sparked.

Derek Carr targeted Amari Cooper three times and the receiver had just one catch for nine yards.

"You look at the film, we had him wide open deep," Gruden said of Cooper. "We didn't go there. He was open a couple of times, and for whatever reason we didn't go that route. Yeah, we want to get him going. That's easier said than done now."

Carr completed just five passes to wide receivers for 43 yards against the Rams. He said he saw deep routes developing, but went with the safer passes underneath, leading to a franchise-record 180 yards for tight end Jared Cook.

"You sit there and are like, we had a chance at that [deep throw], but there's a matchup there where we ended up picking up the first down," Carr said. "Where is that fine line? I'm not going to second guess anytime on the line of scrimmage.

"[Cooper] could possibly win on this one, it's not for sure, but I know for sure what is going to happen over here. It's just one of those things, even coach and I talk about. He keeps reminding me, 'Hey did you see it?' 'Yeah, I saw it.' He's like, 'OK, just as long as you're seeing it we are good.'"

Jon Gruden: I'm Going To Make Sure Al Davis' Legacy Remains Alive

Sep 5, 2018 12:15 PM

Jon Gruden and Al Davis last spoke on Feb. 18, 2002, which was the day Davis traded Gruden from the Raiders to the Buccaneers.

"God, I loved him, man," Gruden said of Al Davis. "It is different without him here. When he'd walk in, whether it was a defensive meeting, offensive meeting or special teams, you had to be ready. You don't want complacency to set in. That's one thing he never let happen. I'm going to make sure his spirit, his legacy, remain alive."

Davis passed away in 2011.

Raiders Could Leave Oakland In 2019 As They Face Lawsuit

Sep 4, 2018 11:36 PM

The Raiders could leave Oakland at the end of the upcoming season after the Oakland City Council has authorized a multimillion dollar antitrust lawsuit against the NFL and the Raiders.

The Raiders are planning on moving to Las Vegas.

The outside attorneys have agreed to cover all the up-front costs of the suit, which will likely seek millions of dollars in damages for the team’s exit.

The suit could result in winning damages of up to $500 million.

“It’s going to happen,” Oakland Councilman Gallo said of the suit, calling it “absolutely a good thing.”

The team has been working on a new deal to play at the Coliseum next season and possibly the one after that if their Las Vegas stadium isn’t ready.

Derek Carr: Raiders Over Shock Of Khalil Mack Trade

Sep 4, 2018 8:51 AM

Derek Carr didn't expect Khalil Mack to be traded, but the quarterback says the Oakland Raiders are over the shock of this past weekend's move.

"It isn't what anybody wanted -- I think that's clear," Carr said

The Raiders sent Mack and a second-round pick in 2020 and a 2020 conditional fifth-rounder to the Chicago Bears for first-round picks in 2019 and 2020, a sixth-rounder in 2019 and a third-rounder in 2020.

"But it is what it is -- it's part of the business," Carr added. "It's one of those sucky things that happen. The hardest part for me is, obviously, you lose a good football player, but he's my brother, man. He's one of my best friends. I think the hardest part is, I don't get to see my friend every day."

Both Carr and Mack were drafted by the Raiders in 2014.
