Raiders Unsure If They Have Backup QB On Roster

Aug 25, 2018 9:59 AM

Jon Gruden has admitted that he isn't sure if the Oakland Raiders have a backup quarterback on their roster.

"I don't know," Gruden said. "You know, we're going to continue to work, continue to see who's available. I thought there were some good moments tonight and there were some moments tonight that weren't good. It's been too inconsistent but I'm not going to say much more tonight until I see the tape, but we're going to continue to evaluate it."

EJ Manuel and Connor Cook have struggled and there may be better options elsewhere.

Jon Gruden: I'm Not Making $100 Million

Aug 20, 2018 3:18 PM

Jon Gruden is denying a report that he received a 10-year, $100 million contract from the Oakland Raiders.

"I'm not making $100 million, just so you know," Gruden said.

Instead of elaborating on his own contract, Gruden went on a tangent about one of Hollywood's most well-paid actors.

"Well, I never thought Tom Cruise, never thought his movies were any good but he's making plenty of money," Gruden said. "There's a lot of things that I don't understand. No disrespect to Tom Cruise. I'm sure he's a great actor. But you know what? You just go about your life as hard as you can. You try to find something you love and you do the best you can at it. I never got into coaching for the money. I got into coaching because I wanted to be a quarterback coach. What the salary cap has become, what free agency has become — it's amazing."

Jon Gruden: Khalil Mack's Holdout Hasn't Been Distraction

Aug 15, 2018 8:43 PM

Jon Gruden doesn't believe the holdout of Khalil Mack is a distraction for the Oakland Raiders.

"I don't think it's been a distraction," Gruden said. "It's obviously, for me, been disappointing. You want to have your best player here. This guy is really a great guy, too. I'm disappointed we don't have him here. Going to try to get him here as soon as we can. In the time being, you've got to move on. You've got to get up and go to work. That's one thing I'm very proud of what we've done here."

Mack, who is due $13.846 million in this, the fifth-year option of his contract, is holding out for a contract extension.
