Raiders, Michael Huff Agree To Terms

Nov 27, 2014 5:03 AM

The Raiders have reached an agreement with free-agent safety Michael Huff, according to a league source. A little-known rule prevented the Raiders from re-signing Huff last season. Any player whose salary escalated at a higher rate than 30 percent from 2009 to 2010, as Huff's and other players' did, was precluded from signing a contract extension with his team, according to an NFL source.

49ers, Raiders Consider Sharing Stadium

Oct 31, 2014 6:28 AM

The 49ers and Raiders have been meeting to discuss the possibility of sharing a new football stadium. "We've put our teams together," 49ers Chief Executive Jed York said. "It doesn't mean we're going to find the right deal that fits for both teams, but we're certainly going to get a look at those options." The Raiders appear amenable to a partnership. "We have said repeatedly that we have an open mind with respect to our stadium solution," said Raiders chief executive Amy Trask. "An open mind means an open mind as to sharing a facility with the 49ers. I say to Jed regularly that we should have not only an open mind to the sharing of the facility, but to the location of the facility which we might share. And so there are a lot of options for us to consider."

Kerry Collins Retires From NFL

Jul 31, 2014 10:31 AM

Quarterback Kerry Collins on Thursday announced his retirement from the NFL, according to an ESPN.com report. "The past several months have brought on much introspection, and I have decided that while my desire to compete on Sundays is still and always will be there, my willingness to commit to the preparation necessary to play another season has waned to a level that I feel is no longer adequate to meet the demands of the position," Collins said in a statement released by his agent, David Dunn. The 38-year-old Collins was the first draft pick (fifth overall) of the expansion Carolina Panthers in 1995 out of Penn State.

Cowboys See Asomugha As Long Shot

Jul 8, 2014 4:24 PM

The Cowboys are interested in free agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, but Matt Mosley of FOX Sports writes that they see signing him as a "huge long shot." "The Cowboys would have to release veteran cornerback Terence Newman to make something like this work. I can tell you with absolute certainty that Dallas sees Asomugha as a huge long shot, and the Cowboys know he could end up with the Philadelphia Eagles," Mosley writes.

Texans Plan To Pursue Asomugha

Feb 9, 2014 11:31 AM

The Texans plan to pursue free agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha as part of their continued defensive makeover. Houston is switching to a 3-4 defense and their move has been stunted by the NFL lockout. "There is significant pressure on the franchise to finally break through and reach the playoffs, and that task is only compounded by all of the teaching, learning and bonding time lost because of the lockout," writes Jason La Canfora of The NFL Network.

Can The Falcons Afford Asomugha?

Oct 21, 2014 2:26 PM

Every team would love to have Pro Bowl cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, but only a handful of teams will be able to afford him once free agency begins. It remains to be seen what Asomugha will demand, but it's safe to assume that it will be high considering the six-year, $84 million deal that Julius Peppers signed with the Bears last offseason. "Who knows how free agency will work and what the terms will be, but the Falcons are one of the healthiest franchises in financial terms. Thomas Dimitroff has made good and fair deals and hasn’t really overpaid or made bad decisions in free agency (although some believe that Dunta Robinson’s $9 million a year deal was entirely too much)," writes The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Despite the team's financial health, the addition of Asomugha just doesn't seem feasible. "The Falcons just have too many needs to invest that much money in one player. Thomas Dimitroff has been very frugal financially and has helped the Falcons become one of the most fiscally healthy franchises in the NFL," the AJC added.
