Raiders Have Eye On Penn State's Wisniewski
The Raiders are big on tradition, so it's long been penciled in that they would take Penn State guard Stefen Wisniewski with their first pick in the draft at No. 48 today, according to a sfgate.com report.
His uncle Steve was an eight-time Pro Bowl player and overall nasty guy for Oakland, and was just hired by the Raiders as assistant offensive line coach.
Huff To Test Market Due To Rule
Raiders safety Michael Huff's contract is expected to allow him to become a free agent.
A little-known rule prevented Oakland from re-signing Huff this past season, as much as they would have liked to, according to an NFL source.
Any player whose salary escalated at a higher rate than 30 percent from 2009 to 2010, as Huff's and other players' did, was precluded from signing a contract extension with his team.
Raiders, Dolphins Plan Visits With Taiwan Jones
Eastern Washington running back Taiwan Jones will visit with the Raiders and Dolphins this week, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
Twenty-seven NFL teams watched Jones at his pro day last week. He couldn't participate in any postseason bowl games or the NFL Scouting Combine because of a broken foot sustained during the season.
Murphy Arrested For Possessing Viagra, Resisting Arrest
Raiders wide receiver Louis Murphy was arrested in Gainesville early Sunday morning and charged with possession of a drug without a valid prescription, failure to obey a police officer and resisting arrest without violence.
Murphy was taken into custody shortly after midnight after a Gainesville police officer tried to pull him over because his Cadillac Escalade's stereo volume was loud.
A search of Murphy's car turned up a "non-labeled prescription bottle containing 11 individual pills later identified as Viagra."
Murphy could not provide a prescription for the pills, allegedly telling the officer that he had peeled the label off of the bottle "because he did not want his girlfriend to know he had a prescription for it."
