Janikowski 'Disappointed, Shocked' By Missed FGs

Oct 8, 2014 1:39 AM

Sebastian Janikowski said he is now ready to put to rest last Sunday's three missed field goals, including a 32-yarder on the final play of the Raiders' 24-23 loss to the Cardinals. "I was disappointed, I mean shocked," he said. "It happens. I can't change anything. Going into warmups, I was 20-for-20, with 63-yarders both way. And, you go in the game you feel so good about it, 'Ah, I can make any kick.' And this thing happens. So, you've just got to move on. Next page."

He'll bounce back," Raiders coach Tom Cable said. "He felt good before the game. He felt he had a lot of leg today. He just missed three times."

John Lucas Counseling JaMarcus Russell

Jun 9, 2014 10:03 AM

NBA coach John Lucas is counseling JaMarcus Russell, according to league sources. Lucas has a history of successfully counseling troubled players. Lucas has Russell at the track each weekday morning by 7 a.m. Whereas Russell struggled to finish 400-yard dashes in the past, he now is ripping off three of them in a row. He is running sprints, lifting weights, doing what he can to get in the best shape possible. Russell appears to be taking his work more seriously than he did in Oakland. He is said to be in a better physical and mental spot than he was until the Raiders cut him during the offseason. Russell was arrested in July for alleged possession of codeine. He told ESPN's Colleen Dominguez that he that he tested positive for codeine after the Raiders selected him with the No. 1 pick in the 2007 draft but that he has not used codeine in three years. Former NBA Players Association executive director Charles Grantham helped bring the two men together.

McFadden Still Eager To Prove Himself

Sep 12, 2014 5:29 PM

Darren McFadden has 240 yards rushing during the first two weeks of the season, putting together a few games that are beginning to live up to his pre-draft expectations. "I don't feel like I've proved anything right now," McFadden said. "I've just shown people that I can (play). But, as far as proving something, I don't think I've done that yet." "No, he is not better than I thought he was," Raiders offensive coordinator Hue Jackson said. "I have always thought Darren McFadden is a really good football player."

Raiders To Start Gradowski Over Campbell

Sep 28, 2014 9:38 AM

After just two starts with the Raiders, Jason Campbell has been benched in favor of Bruce Gradowski. Raiders coach Tom Cable announced the switch after practice Wednesday, hoping the spark that Gradkowski provided in the second half of last weekend's 16-14 victory over the St. Louis Rams can carry over the rest of the season. "The reasons are pretty simple," Cable said. "First and foremost is the energy and the level of intensity that was brought into the huddle when he came into the game. The way the guys responded around him. And, obviously, scoring points. ... That's what we're about. If we can get this thing to where we can score 24 points a game, I think we'll be very tough to beat."

Tom Cable was not prepared to announce which quarterback will start for the Raiders in Week 3 on Monday. While Oakland acquired Jason Campbell via trade this past offseason, Bruce Gradkowski appeared to give the Raiders a better offense on Sunday against the Rams. "There isn't going to be a controversy," Cable said. "I'll make a good decision, the right decision, and we'll go from there." Cable is likely to announce his decision by Wednesday.
