49ers Interested In Sharing Stadium With Raiders

Jun 13, 2014 2:14 AM

49ers president Jed York was asked about the possibility of sharing a stadium with the Oakland Raiders in the Bay Area during an interview with KNBR. "Sharing a stadium at a very high level makes a lot of sense," said York. "We've carved out in our deal that we can potentially have two stadiums in Santa Clara." York continued and talked about the possibility of building a stadium where the Oakland Coliseum currently exists if the 49ers are unable to successfully build their stadium in Santa Clara. "If we could do a joint stadium in Oakland as an alternative, it is something that I would at least explore." The Giants and Jets have successfully shared a stadium for several decades and have built a new stadium together in New Jersey.

Fassel Claims He Hasn't Even Heard From Oakland

Jul 14, 2014 6:05 AM

Jim Fassel told Gary Williams of Sirius XM's Mad Dog Radio that he has heard nothing from the Raiders about replacing Tom Cable. The San Francisco Chronicle reported on Wednesday that Fassel had already interviewed for the Oakland job. "No," Fassel said in response to the question of whether anyone has reached out to him. "Because, I mean, Tom Cable's the coach. . . . I think if a coach is in place you don't start calling somebody and seeing if the job is open or not. Tom Cable is the coach. "My son happens to be the special teams coordinator for the Raiders and they played very well this year. They set an NFL record, an all-time record, of net punt [yards] and gross punt [yards] this year. So I follow the Raiders pretty closely because my son is coaching there and I coached there at one time. But, no, I'm not lobbying for any job. I'm not lobbying for the Raider job. I have never in my life rooted for a coach to be let go so there's an opening. I never have. I'm in the same fraternity. I just got my nose to the grindstone. I'm down here in Vegas working on getting situated down here and that's where I am. Nobody's reached out to me."

Al Davis has interviewed prospective head coaches for more than two weeks, two league sources told The Chronicle. But Davis has not yet decided if he will fire Tom Cable. Two people on his interview list have been identified as former Giants coach Jim Fassel, who now coaches UFL champion Las Vegas, and former Raiders offensive coordinator Marc Trestman, the head coach of CFL champion Montreal. Several sources, including one within the organization, believe Davis may re-interview 2009 candidates Kevin Gilbride, the Giants' offensive coordinator, and Winston Moss, a Packers assistant head coach, if he hasn't already.
