Bo Jackson: Don't Be Sorry For Me
During a College Football Hall of Fame luncheon on Thursday, Bo Jackson told an audience of 300 that he wouldn't change anything about his career.
"Don't be sorry for me," said Jackson. "It was a blessing in disguise. We as humans have to realize that God puts speed bumps in our road of life. My speed bump was me injuring myself. I've gotten over that. I've moved on from being an employee to being an employer."
Jackson is a part owner of the Burr Ridge Bank & Trust and own the Bo Jackson Elite Sports Complex in Lockport, Ill.
Jackson said he finds being a businessman just as rewarding and challenging as being an athlete.
"I'm learning something new every day. I'm eager to learn," he said. "I'm also learning that if you don't watch yourself you can be taken advantage of quickly in the business world. The thing I try to do is surround myself with smart, astute business people and that seems to help out a great deal."
Payton: Raiders Are Much Improved From Last Year

"They run the ball real well," said Payton. "I think it?s a big challenge. When you're talking about Oakland, there are a handful of teams that draw real well in the preseason and are a place that?s tough to play in. I think it?s a good experience to bring young players into a place like this an experience like Oakland. They?ve run the ball real well in the reason and done a good job."
Payton also spoke of how the Raiders are an improved team from last season.
"They?re much improved from a year ago and played well at the end of last season. It will be a good challenge for us.

Risdon's NFL Season Previews, Version 2.0
Few insiders know the NFL better than RealGM's Jeff Risdon, who is 21 teams into his team-by-team season previews.
Click on the links below for the most in depth and readable previews anywhere.
- Oakland Raiders
The Raiders are a tough cloud to forecast. There is a great deal of potential here on defense and with JaMarcus Russell and the running backs, but it's tough to give them the benefit of doubt until they prove it.
- New York Giants
The Giants have some question marks on offense, but their defense has the potential to be special.
- Cincinnati Bengals
The return of Carson Palmer and upgrades to the OL should fix the offense, but there are still legit questions. The defense is loaded with young talent, but it must continue to develop and make plays.
- Indianapolis Colts
If it wasn't for Peyton Manning, the Colts would have a difficult time dealing with an overhauled coaching staff and the loss of Marvin Harrison.
- Philadelphia Eagles
Many are high on the Eagles heading into the season, but Jeff points out that a lot will have to fall in place for them to piece together another playoff run.
- Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs are in the middle of a massive rebuild, and they may regret getting rid of Tony Gonzalez.
- San Diego Chargers
If their injured stars are healthy, the AFC road to Miami will probably go through San Diego.
- Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons are for real, but a tough schedule could keep them from making their second consecutive playoff appearance.
- New York Jets
The 2009 season might not go as planned, but the future is bright for the Jets with Mark Sanchez at quarterback.
- Seattle Seahawks
There are a lot of question marks regarding Seattle's health and depth on the offensive line, but a return to the playoffs is possible.
- New Orleans Saints
Reggie Bush isn't going to be the running back many want him to be, but he's still one of the most dangerous players in the game.

Oakland Brings Back Napoleon Harris Four Years Later

Harris, 30, played for the Minnesota Vikings and Kansas City Chiefs the past four seasons, including two stints with the Vikings.

Cable Names Russell Oakland's Starter
Raiders coach Tom Cable named JaMarcus Russell as the team's starting quarterback on Sunday.
Jeff Garcia, who was expected to challenge Russell, missed much of training camp with a calf injury.

Assaulted Raiders Coach Cooperating With Police
An attorney representing injured Oakland Raiders assistant coach Randy Hanson will turn over medical records at the request of the Napa, Calif., police on Friday that show Hanson?s jaw is broken, multiple sources told the National Football Post.
San Francisco attorney John McGuinn has been hired to represent Hanson, and police have been attempting to gain information from Hanson in recent days. Lt. Brian McGovern said earlier this week that if Hanson?s jaw is broken, it could lead to felony charges in the alleged assault that took place at the Raiders? training camp facility. The source said Hanson suffered a fracture in his upper jaw and that he had to seek additional emergency room treatment Wednesday night near his home in Livermore, Calif., for lower jaw pain two weeks after the incident.
Cable has declined to comment on the matter, telling reporters it was an internal issue. However, NFL Security is investigating, and now law enforcement is expected to receive cooperation from Hanson and McGuinn, which will likely lead to an investigation three weeks before the beginning of the regular season. Police took a report about the incident on Aug. 6 at a hospital in Napa when Hanson was receiving X-rays. Any violation of the NFL?s personal conduct policy could lead to punishment from Commissioner Roger Goodell.
The alleged assault took place Aug. 5 after Cable informed Hanson he would no longer be involved with coaching defensive backs on the field and would be relegated to film work, the source said.
Raiders Release Lorenzo Neal
Lorenzo Neal, a premier blocking fullback and 17-year veteran signed last May, was released Wednesday by the Raiders to make room for the return of safety Rashad Baker.
Neal, 38, left the morning practice with a minor hamstring pull, but his departure was hastened by the recovery of third-year fullback Oren O'Neal.
"I think it says a lot about O'Neal," coach Tom Cable said. "He gets better and better with each day."
