Jordan Doubtful Against Giants

Sep 26, 2014 5:34 AM

Oakland Raiders running back LaMont Jordan does not expect to play in the Raiders' season finale Saturday against the New York Giants because of turf toe on his right foot, which caused him to miss last Saturday's 22-3 loss at Denver. Jordan is currently wearing a walking boot to protect his tender big toe. "When you miss the last two games of the season, that kind of gives them more ammo to use in the offseason," Jordan said Tuesday. "I think this year I've established that I can play this game and I can be a starter. I think there is a little more consistency that needs to be around, not just with myself. I think coming back next year I'm going to be a lot more hungry and determined than I was this year." Jordan's absence this weekend could have significant ramifications in the NFC playoff race. The Giants are currently 10-5, and a win against Oakland would clinch the NFC East for Eli Manning & Co. New York has already clinched a wild-card berth on account of Minnesota's loss in Baltimore Saturday night.

Collins Wants To Return

Sep 12, 2014 8:44 AM

Kerry Collins wants to return: Once lauded for his error-free play earlier this season, Collins has tossed eight interceptions and lost four fumbles in his past five games, part of many reasons why the team has dropped four consecutive games. Backup Marques Tuiasosopo's poor play in a 26-10 road loss to the Jets in Week 13 eventually put Collins back in the starting quarterback spot. But his future with the team -- in part, because of a $12.9 million cap figure for 2006 -- remains in doubt. Collins, however, said he wants to return next season. "Certainly, I'm aware of my contract status and it would be hard to think that I would stay here under the current contract I have," Collins conceded. "But I'd like to be here. I'd like to be part of turning this thing around. "It's purely speculative to think what's going to happen right now. But we'll play these next two weeks out, go into the offseason and see what happens."

Jordan To Sit Against Broncos

Sep 25, 2014 2:40 PM

Oakland Raiders running back LaMont Jordan remained sidelined with a turf toe injury and has been ruled out of Sunday's game against Denver, head coach Norv Turner said Thursday. Jordan, who is the first Oakland running back since 2000 to rush for more than 1,000 yards, injured himself last week early in the first half of the Raiders' 9-7 loss to Cleveland. Jordan remained in the game, rushing for a career-best 132 yards in the defeat. An MRI after the game revealed the turf toe injury and Jordan had his foot placed in a protective walking boot. He did not practice at all this week in hopes that the rest would enable Jordan to play Saturday in Denver. Turner shot those hopes down Thursday with the news that Jordan would not play. Instead, the Raiders will rely on fullback Zack Crockett and seldom-used running back Justin Fargas.

Jordan Undergoes MRI For Turf-Toe Injury

May 26, 2014 4:47 AM

Running back LaMont Jordan also underwent an MRI for the turf-toe injury he sustained early in Sunday's game. Rookie cornerback Fabian Washington sustained a bruised left knee Sunday. He is expected to miss some practice time this week but be available for Saturday's game, Turner said. Center Jake Grove (right knee) didn't play Sunday and is questionable for the Broncos game, Turner said.

Raiders Hope Turner Stays

Sep 25, 2014 2:44 PM

The results haven't changed much in Norv Turner's second season as Oakland Raiders coach: another losing record and another last-place finish. As the losses keep piling up, so do the questions about Turner's future with the team. "Oh, that question is going to be asked. It was asked last night and will continue to be asked," Turner said Monday, a day after Oakland's 9-7 loss to Cleveland. "And I'm sure that whole thing will be evaluated and be dealt with at the end of the season." While its uncertain whether Turner has the support of owner Al Davis, his players have rallied around the coach. Even though the Raiders (4-10) may not even match last season's 5-11 mark, the players see improvement and hope the coaching staff will stay to see it through.

Ex-Raiders Lineman Darrell Russell Dies In Auto Accident

Dec 10, 2014 11:20 PM

Former Raiders and Buccaneers defensive lineman Darrell Russell has died in an automobile accident. Russell and the driver of 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix died when the speeding car went out of control, sheared off a fire hydrant and ran into a parked bus shortly after 9 a.m. ET, accoring to Ron Myers of the Los Angeles Fire Department. The accident occurred on La Cienega Blvd. near Sawyer Street. The car left a 50-yard path of destruction, according to fire department spokesmen. The Grand Prix apparently hit a curb, then ran over the hydrant and knocked over several news racks before striking Metro Rapid bus No. 717, which was out of service with its flashers on. The driver was standing outside the bus when the accident occurred. The car may have been racing another vehicle before the accident, according to an MTA spokesman. It took paramedics 25 minutes to get both men out of the car. Both were taken to local hospitals in critical condition. The driver died shortly after arriving at UCLA Medical Center. Russell died later at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Raiders Bench Tuiasosopo

Oct 2, 2014 12:34 AM

The Oakland Raiders switched quarterbacks again, moving Kerry Collins back into the starting role after backup Marques Tuiasosopo struggled last week against the New York Jets. Three days after saying his intention was to give Tuiasosopo another start this week against the Cleveland Browns, coach Norv Turner announced Wednesday he changed his mind and was going with Collins. Turner said he made the decision after talking with owner Al Davis and other members of the organization. But Turner said that ultimately the call was his and he decided to go with the quarterback he felt gave the team the best chance to win. "I just felt that it was Kerry. It's not a reflection of Tui and his performance, because he knows there are things he could have done better, but we did not play well around him," Turner said. "We owe it to the guys on this team that are giving as much as they're giving, we owe them the best chance to find a way to win a game."

Honeymoon Over For Collins

Oct 2, 2014 12:13 AM

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Marques Tuiasosopo probably will get his shot as Oakland's starting quarterback this week. Coach Norv Turner is leaning toward demoting the struggling Kerry Collins and plans to make his final decision before the Raiders take the practice field Wednesday to prepare for the lowly New York Jets -- though it sure seems Turner has all but made up his mind. The coach already spoke to Collins about the potential change for Sunday's road game. "I wouldn't have brought it up if it wasn't something we're considering strongly," Turner said Monday on the heels of the Raiders' second straight defeat and fourth loss in five games, 34-10 at San Diego. "We're going to look at the quarterback situation and say, 'Hey, is it time to look at Tui?' With his mobility, would that help us?"

Kiel Could Miss Raiders Game

Oct 7, 2014 6:39 PM

The Chargers could be without starting strong safety Terrence Kiel on Sunday night when facing the visiting Oakland Raiders. Kiel has been bothered by a sprained right ankle and it caused him trouble again in Sunday's overtime win over the Washington Redskins. "I just aggravated it again," said Kiel, who didn't practice Friday. "I might play; I haven't really made a decision whether I'm going to play this game or not." Kiel is third among Chargers with 50 tackles, with a sack and a forced fumble. If he can't go, third-year pro Clinton Hart would replace him as the Chargers try to win their fifth straight overall.

Raiders Put Walker On IR

Oct 1, 2014 11:49 PM

The Oakland Raiders put left guard Langston Walker on injured reserve Friday night and signed defensive tackle Anttaj Hawthorne from the practice squad to fill the roster spot. Walker, a fourth-year pro from California, underwent emergency surgery Oct. 25 to repair an internal hemorrhage sustained during a game against Buffalo two days earlier. He lost nearly a gallon of blood, then lost a significant amount of weight while recovering from the abdominal surgery. Hawthorne, a rookie from Wisconsin, was a sixth-round pick.
