Raiders Acquire Christian Hackenberg From Jets

May 22, 2018 5:35 PM

The New York Jets have traded Christian Hackenberg to the Oakland Raiders for a conditional draft pick.

The move came hours after Hackenberg made critical comments about the coaching staff to reporters. He said the past two seasons were "frustrating" because he didn't "get any information from anybody on how to fix that and how to address" mechanical flaws.

Hackeberg was a second round pick in 2016 out of Penn State. The Jets have since traded up to select Sam Darnold with the third overall pick.

Hackenberg served as the fourth-string quarterback in 2016 and the third-stringer last season.

Jets CEO: Sam Darnold Will Lead Team To Greatness

May 9, 2018 8:22 AM

New York Jets CEO Christopher Johnson says rookie Sam Darnold will lead the team to greatness.

"I think people are going to look back -- I honestly think they're going to look back 20 years from now and say this is the moment the Jets shifted into a new year, that they became a great team," Johnson said.

The Jets have gone seven straight seasons without making the playoffs. They used the No. 3 pick on Darnold.

"I absolutely think he can be our quarterback of the future," Johnson said. "I'm not the GM, I'm not the head coach, but I can recognize a great football player, and he's so good at playing football when everything goes wrong, when the pocket collapses.

"When it all goes to hell, he can throw across his body. He can throw when his feet are in the wrong place. He can do a lot of things that are hard to teach."

Christian Hackenberg Overhauls Throwing Motion

May 4, 2018 8:10 AM

With three quarterbacks ahead of him on the New York Jets' depth chart, Christian Hackenberg is overhauling his throwing motion.

A second-round pick in 2016, Hackenberg hasn't thrown an official NFL pass. Sam Darnold, Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater are all ahead of him in New York.

Hackenberg has been working with quarterback guru Jeff Christensen to rebuild his mechanics this offseason.

Christensen says Hackenberg has had to "start from scratch" on his throwing motion.
