Jets Expect To Expand Use Of Analytics

Apr 26, 2018 8:10 AM

The New York Jets already use analytics, but they expect to do so more, Mike Maccagnan says.

"Analytics, I think, is something that every team has used. We're no different," Maccagnan said. "We've done quite a bit. We've used it both on the pro and the college side. As this expands a little bit, there may be other ways, whether it's coaching or scouting, to make ourselves more efficient or more effective at what we do. We're like every other team out there. We have an analytics staff and department, and I would think, as things move forward, we'd probably expand and grow that."

If the Jets are going to use analytics while evaluating quarterback prospects, they'd likely lean towards Baker Mayfield and away from Josh Allen.

Joe Namath: Baker Mayfield Is 'Most Outrageous' QB In Draft

Apr 24, 2018 8:42 AM

As the New York Jets consider a quarterback at No. 3 in this week's NFL Draft, Joe Namath says he's a fan of Baker Mayfield.

In addition to Mayfield, Josh Allen, Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen could be options for the Jets depending on how the first two picks play out.

"I haven't met them, but I've watched them and the most outrageous, so to speak, that I've seen has been Mayfield," Namath said.

Namath said his affinity for Mayfield goes back further than just his performance in the Rose Bowl between Georgia and Oklahoma.

"Hey, it wasn't just Georgia, it was a couple of years, early on, when I saw him play," he said. "I saw him a couple of years back. I never saw him look bad. I don't know how tall he is. I still don't know big he is. Size can be a major asset, yes, size can be an asset in today's game. But Drew Brees, his size was questioned many times and he's one of the greatest players who's ever played."
