Muhammad Wilkerson Guarantees Jets Will Improve On 5-11 Season

May 11, 2017 10:28 AM

Attending a charity function on Tuesday, Muhammad Wilkerson guaranteed that the New York Jets will improve on last season's 5-11 record.

"The team will definitely be positive and do more things better than we did last year, I can guarantee that," Wilkerson said. "We'll have more wins than we did last year and that's a fact."

Wilkerson made the statement with Joe Namath, who guaranteed the Jets would beat the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III and backed it up, in the same room.

"You have to earn respect and that's by going out and winning some games, showing something, and getting some teams wary of you," Namath said. "Right now, I don't think there are many teams wary of the Jets. ... Until they start playing well, who's going to respect them?"

Woody Johnson: Jets Need A Youth Movement

May 3, 2017 8:47 AM

Woody Johnson wants to see the New York Jets engage in a youth movement for the first time in his tenure as owner.

"If you want to go to the Promised Land, you have to go in a certain direction," Johnson told ESPN Radio. "I think this is a direction we've never tried in the 17 years I've been associated with the Jets. We've never gone this way."

Johnson added that the team is focused on "getting the right type of player in the locker room ... young ... build through the draft ... young free agents that a lot of guys don't even pay attention to, the guys who weren't drafted. A lot of good players out there play American football, a lot of them."

After Passing On A Quarterback, Jets Focused On Three-Man Battle

May 2, 2017 7:59 AM

The New York Jets didn't end up drafting a quarterback, signaling that they'll move forward with the guys they have.

Josh McCown, Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg will all get a chance to compete for the starting job.

Todd Bowles said the trio's performance in minicamps and OTAs will determine what the depth chart looks like at the start of training camp.

"That will determine itself in OTAs and the spring, going forward, how we line up in the summer," Bowles said.
