Jets Believe Darrelle Revis Capable Of Playing Safety

Jan 30, 2017 8:34 AM

Dennard Wilson, hired as defensive backs coach for the New York Jets just last week, said he believes Darrelle Revis is more than capable of making the move from cornerback to safety.

The move seems logical and Revis openly discussed the possibility during this past season.

"Darrelle is a guy that has a lot of football intelligence," Wilson said. "I wouldn't think it wouldn't be a problem for him to pick it up."

Revis struggled last season and was ranked as the 66th-best corner by Pro Football Focus.

Mark Gastineau Battling Multiple Brain Diseases

Jan 20, 2017 8:12 AM

Mark Gastineau, one of the NFL's most feared pass-rushers as a member of the New York Jets in the 1980s, says he's battling serious brain issues he believes were caused by concussions in football.

"When my results came back, I had dementia, Alzheimer's and Parkinson," Gastineau said. "Those are three things that I have."

Gastineau, 60, said he was diagnosed a year ago and he blames it on poor tackling technique.

He became a professional boxer after football. From 1991 to 1995, he fought a total of 17 professional bouts, winning 15.

Brandon Marshall: NFL Coaches Need To Unionize

Jan 9, 2017 8:02 AM

The NFL players' union has demanded better working conditions, including limits on contact practices, a day off during the week, and time off during the offseason, but it's another story for coaches.

Coaches can be expected to work as much as 20 hours daily without a day off, sometimes for the entire calendar year.

"It's time for our coaches to unionize," Brandon Marshall says. "We've had four coaches in the hospital this year. If people understood how many hours, and what it takes to be a head coach, how many hours they put in, it would be an issue."

Todd Bowles, Marshall's coach with the New York Jets, was one of those coaches. Bowles got out of the hospital and went straight back to work.

Jets Not Giving Todd Bowles 2017 Playoff Mandate

Jan 7, 2017 5:50 PM

The New York Jets may not necessarily part ways with Todd Bowles if they miss the playoffs in 2017.

"No, I really don't like mandates because they normally don't work -- lines in the sand, whatever," Woody Johnson said.

"You don't want to judge it that way. The way we'll judge it is getting better each and every year and seeing it in our players -- our young players. Are they getting better or are they going the other way?"

The Jets went 5-11 in Year 2 of Bowles' tenure as Jets' head coach.

Jets OC Chan Gailey Retires

Jan 3, 2017 2:22 PM

Chan Gailey has decided to retire after a 5-11 season as offensive coordinator of the New York Jets.

"I informed coach Bowles prior to the 2016 season that I would retire after this season," Gailey said in a statement released by the Jets. "I thought it was best to tell him early, so that he could begin to think about how he would move the team forward on offense. While we did not have the season we all wanted to have, I think there are some great people here at the Jets and in the New York/New Jersey area. I wish them all the best moving forward."

Todd Bowles added: "I'm grateful to Chan for joining our coaching staff and enjoyed working with him. The respect that I have for him as a person and a coach only increased during our time together."

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo, who served as an offensive coordinator for the Browns in 2015, is among the favorites to replace Gailey.

No Teams Finish 2016 In Top-10 In Both Offensive, Defensive DVOA

Jan 3, 2017 2:01 PM

The NFL has very few teams this season that excel in all facets of the game. Further evidence of this issue shows itself in the fact that there is only one team ranking in the top-10 in both Football Outsiders' Offensive and Defensive DVOA.

Last season, the Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs ranked in the top-10 on both sides of the ball.

The Chiefs were the closest team to finish in the top-10 in both Offensive and Defensive DVOA at 13th and 14th.

The New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys finished the season ranked first and second in both Total DVOA and Weighted DVOA.

Darrelle Revis Admits He Could Move To Safety

Jan 2, 2017 9:29 AM

Darrelle Revis has acknowledged for the first time that he is willing to consider a move to safety.

"I still have a lot of football to play," Revis said, while admitting that he has discussed changing positions with Todd Bowles.

"This offseason, there will be a lot of thinking what my future is and what I can do to best help the team win games," Revis said. "If that means changing my position to help the team win games, that's fine. I still love the game. I still have a passion for it and I still want to play at a high level."

Jets Likely To Keep Todd Bowles, Mike Maccagnan

Jan 1, 2017 11:50 AM

The New York Jets are likely to retain both head coach Todd Bowles and general manager Mike Maccagnan in 2017.

Although Bowles and Maccagnan are expected to be safe, the Jets likely will make some changes to their coaching staff.

The Jets won 10 games in Bowles' first season but struggled in 2016.

Bowles also experienced health issues in his first two seasons with the Jets. He had surgery in February 2016 to remove a benign mass from his throat. He was hospitalized on Dec. 23 with issues related to kidney stones and his gall bladder. Neither issue caused Bowles to miss a game.
