Jets Receive Trade Interest In Muhammed Wilkerson

Apr 29, 2015 12:06 PM

The New York Jets have received trade interest in Muhammed Wilkerson this offseason from at least two teams.

More calls from teams are expected as the NFL draft gets underway Thursday night, according to the source.

The Jets don't plan on trading Wilkerson but will listen to offers.

Wilkerson could be the most attractive defensive player potentially available. Any team interested in acquiring him would have to weigh whether he is better than the player or players it could draft this week.

Wilkerson is scheduled to make $6.96 million, the amount of his fifth-year option, this season.

Jets Calling Teams About Moving Up For Marcus Mariota

Apr 26, 2015 12:20 PM

The New York Jets will call teams to gauge interest about moving up from the sixth spot.

Marcus Mariota is believed to be the Jets' target if they move up.

"We're going to reach out to every team ahead of us and gauge the value of what they're looking for in compensation to move up in the draft," he said. "That doesn't mean we're actually trying to go up necessarily and get a player but you hear what the market value is basically, and then what you do is see what unfolds with the first few picks and who is available. We'll have that discussion when we get to the draft -- if we want to move up in the draft.

"Philosophically, I'm not opposed to moving up in the draft to get a player if you feel if a player is going to be an extremely good player. ... I would personally want to (acquire more talent)."

Apr 6, 2015 5:11 PM

Geno Smith is working out with Tom House this offseason.

House is a former major league pitcher and pitching coach who has become a quarterback guru for the likes of Tom Brady and Drew Brees.

Smith, speaking to reporters Monday on a conference call, said he was joined at the workouts by teammates Quincy Enunwa and Shaq Evans.

"I worked extremely hard to improve my mechanics and some of the things I felt I needed to improve on from last year, that I could work on without being in the team structure," Smith said.

Muhammad Wilkerson Skipping Jets' Workouts As He Seeks New Deal

Apr 6, 2015 1:38 PM

Muhammad Wilkerson will not report for the start of the first offseason program under Todd Bowles on Monday, according to sources.

Wilkerson, considered by many to be the New York Jets' best incumbent player, and one who has yet to make considerable money on his rookie contract, is due to make roughly $7M in 2015 on a fifth-year option. He's seeking a new deal in line with his production.

Wilkerson is among the NFL's more dominant and versatile linemen, able to generate pass rush from inside or outside, and has become the leader of New York's young defense.

Jets Fuel Speculation Of Moving Up For Marcus Mariota

Apr 2, 2015 2:38 PM

Mike Maccagnan and Todd Bowles dropped hints Thursday during a conference call with season-ticket holders that the New York Jets are in the market for another quarterback.

The Jets own the sixth overall pick and have been linked to Marcus Mariota for months.

Ryan Fitzpatrick was acquired in the offseason who will challenge Geno Smith for the starting job if they don't draft Mariota.

"We want competition at every position," Bowles said. "Ryan is going to compete, as well as Geno is going to compete, and we hope to add somebody else to compete with them, along with (Matt) Simms."

"Sitting at six is a very good spot to be in," Maccagnan said. "It does allow us the potential to move up in the draft because we're not far from the first pick."
