Seahawks Don't Regret Percy Harvin Trade

Jan 28, 2015 1:16 PM

The Seattle Seahawks don't regret trading Percy Harvin to the New York Jets in the middle of the 2014 regular season.

"Percy is a unique player, so you have to use him in a unique fashion," Seahawks general manager John Schneider said during Media Day on Tuesday. "So, we kind of just got back to playing more basic: Run the ball and hammer it out, read- option. Getting back to a little bit more up field instead of horizontal."

Harvin's sometimes rocky relationship with a few teammates came to light in the wake of the trade, but Schneider admitted it wasn't easy to part ways with such an explosive talent.

"It was difficult, but we had talked to ownership about it," Schneider said. "When you have support of the ownership, it makes it that much easier. So, he knew there were several reasons why it may not work out. As long as we're communicating with ownership in that regard and explaining why it didn't work out, it's much easier to do than waking up in the morning and saying, 'Hey, we're going to do this.'"

Chan Gailey hasn't heard from the New York Jets about his candidacy as offensive offensive coordinator.

"Everybody made it seem like a done deal -- everybody except me," Gailey said Monday.

Gailey spent the past two seasons out of the NFL after being fired by the Buffalo Bills as head coach.

Gailey said three other teams have talked to him about joining their staffs and he is contemplating whether to do it, as he only wants to coach with the right team in the right situation.

Jets Hire Todd Bowles As Head Coach

Jan 15, 2015 10:32 AM

The New York Jets have hired Todd Bowles as head coach.

Bowles was one of the top coaching candidates this offseason following another successful season as defensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals. The Jets also had Dan Quinn of the Seattle Seahawks high on their list and were prepared to offer the job to him had they been eliminated from the playoffs on Saturday.

Bowles will receive a four-year contract, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Bowles will join Mike Maccagnan to lead the Jets' new regime as they attempt to rebuild the franchise's credibility after a 4-12 record, its fourth consecutive non-winning season.

Jets Prepared To Offer Head Coaching Job To Dan Quinn

Jan 12, 2015 1:15 PM

The New York Jets were prepared to fly to Seattle to offer Dan Quinn their head coaching job if the Seahawks lost on Saturday.

Quinn can't be offered a job until the Seahawks' postseason run is over. Quinn is the Seahawks' defensive coordinator.

The Jets' interest in Quinn is one of the reasons the team kept their likely new general manager, Houston Texans director of college scouting Mike Maccagnan, in town for a second straight night during his second interview for the job.

Quinn is also drawing interest from the Chicago Bears, among other teams. Quinn is likely to receive multiple offers, though the Jets could have an inside track as he grew up in Morristown a few miles from their practice facility.
